Just want you to know... I enjoyed your works of art and I miss them so much. I might just be in the shadows lurking but visiting this place is always one of my browsing itineraries.

If there are no challenges, may I suggest that if and when you get a chance, will you please share your recently published art work? a page made with a newly discovered tool that works wonders? how about a layout with a newly discovered technique? something about a new love, a new member of the family, of places you've been; or perhaps something that made you proud you made one but there is no one to say, "good job"? I'm sure you will always find someone to give you a big pat on the back!

Happy holidays to everyone. We will be greeting the New Year in just a few hours and would like to close 2009 with the winner of Kaya 31. Thank you to Nina, Ching, Isah Mae, Cathy & Alby for being able to join the challenge and to Cabbie for being a good sport and submitting her ATC's inspite of being late. So even if there were just a few submissions, there was an abundance of inspiration and creativity.

I love making ATCs and I wanted to make a lot of them for this month's challenge. In fact, I made this series a few weeks ago and I had planned on making at least four more. I had not planned on having a very hectic November and December. So I guess there won't be any more ATC's for me the rest of the year.

Anyway, here's the series I made. The title is "Jesus is the Reason" - a little reminder of why we're celebrating Christmas.

Ever since I joined the scrap booking challenges, I have wanted to make an ATC. This is my first effort. I am grateful to Marian for initiating this challenge.

I had fun playing with my Cricut die-cut machine. I made various shapes with different sizes. I applied glitter glue, attached rhinestones and brads, and embossed them. I then, adhered them into embossed and distressed 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 cards.

Materials Used:
Cricut-Joys of the Season, The Paper Company stock cards, Versa Mark stamp pad, Stampendous embossing powder (Gold, Opaque, Clear), Glitter Glue (Red & Green), Rhinestones, MM brads, Wood stamps, Clear stamps, Craft dyed-based ink pad (Black & Red), Archival ink (Sepia), Embossing heating tool.

Techniques:
Embossing, Inking, Die-cutting, Stamping

My profuse apologies for not being able to join the KAYA! challenges for a looong while. Please know that I've always followed the challenges and have just been so amazed at the talent of Pinay scrappers. Thanks so much for the inspiration this month, Marian, that forced to me actually make it to the last challenge of the year.

Materials:

Green Color Kit - Gauche Alchemy; stickers - Making Memories; adhesive - gel medium, Ranger Glossy Accents; embossing powder - Ranger; others - acrylic paint, pizza box my order from GA came in, pearl beads from a chain from an old GA kit.

Techniques used:
I've been playing around with cardboard lately and I realized that they'd make a fun background for ATCs. I also cut out Christmas-themed shapes from them and embossed them with gold embossing powder. I originally painted the corrugated part of the cardboard but it turned out to be purple smooshy mess. Thank goodness I turned them over and found this funky splattered paint background which you see here.

I started out as a stamper making cards before I moved on to scrapbooking. My ATCs incorporate simple stamping in the design. As you can see most of my designs are very simple which is how I like my cards and LOs. I will be using these ATCs as tags for my gifts this Christmas.

Materials: Various paper and cardstock from my stash of scraps; stamps - Stampin' Up, Hero Arts and Hampton Arts, Penny Black; Ink - Ranger Archival Ink, Tsukineko Brilliance; Embossing powder; Mists - Radiant Rain and Glimmer Mist; Twinkling Waters paint; stickers and bling from my stash.

Kaya 31 - Get Ready For Christmas

I have always been a last minute shopper. I always say I'll do the shopping and gift wrapping early but I never get to do it. By the time December comes I still have many unchecked names on my gift list. Besides that, I like to wrap the packages and tag them with a handmade card. Sometimes on Christmas Eve I'm still rushing to get my gifts under the tree. This challenge will help me and you to get a head start on the things we need to do for Christmas.

The Challenge : I would like you to make Christmas Themed Artist Trading Cards (ATC) which can be used as a gift (they are after all mini works of art) or as a tag for a gift. An ATC is a card measuring 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches. You may use any material and/or technique to embellish the card. Your embellishments may extend over the ATC but the card base size should still be maintained. Please submit a minimum of 2 ATCs to be eligible in the drawing for a RAK. This is a great way to use up all your little scraps of paper and embellishments.

The RAK consists of several sheets of Christmas themed paper, Maya Road sheer journalling tags, Tim Holtz journalling tickets, several sheets of Prima Note journalling paper and 2 sets of mini Christmas stamps from Hampton Arts.

Kaya 31 will run from today November 14 - December 20, 2009. Please submit your entries on or before 11:59 pm on December 20. The challenge run has been changed just for this month to adjust for our busy schedules this holiday season.

As an incentive for you to make more ATC's Lee has an extra RAK (she will post her RAK soon) for the person who submits the most number of entries above 8 ATCs.

I rushed this layout to beat the time and I hope I'll make it. This is what I get for procrastinating...not knowing whether to make a traditional or digital layout. Well, here I combined 2 products - traditional prouducts turned into digital by scanning them.

This is a picture of DD with her cousin who had her confirmation early this year. I am just so amazed how an outfit could make her look so mature beyond her age. She usually the jeans and sneakers kind of girl but when this important event for her cousin took place she a godmother for the first time.

Journaling:

You look so mature part of me was so proud of you and part of me felt sad that you grew up so fast!

Materials:

Background paper for layout, for the circle lace, for the strips used on the left side of the layout is from DCWV Luxury pack; circle lace template [Craftfairy]; Fonts: Pristina, Tunga, Ravie; lace bow on oval tag; lace along the side and bottom of pictures; all other embellishments from Scrapbook Flair's Nayan - Dream of Spring Collection [thank you SF/Nayan, for the freebies!]

Technique used:

I usually scan patterned papers that I buy before I cut them up to pieces. As I am into digital scrapbooking also, I want to use some of these papers in my digital layouts. I used lots of layering of different elements; I used scans of lace in my stash. Design scraplifted from Sarah de Guzman [thanks for the inspiration!]

It took me awhile to finally make a boy page using laces... I was asking myself kung KAYA ko ito? Thinking how easy for Timi to play with it, I convinced myself to try it too and here's what I got...

Here's a page about Luigi celebrating his 16th birthday with an Eat-all-you-Can blast! It was a 2-hour drive from Los Banos to EDSA, and he was imagining his craving for his favorite Tonkatsu and Halo-halo... only to find out that he was disappointed! No, the food at Triple V was really great, but my son doesn't know the technique in eating on a buffet. So he ended up hating the Eat-all-you-Can thing... ang siba kasi, hahaha!

Journaling: It's Luig's 16th birthday! We celebrated it at Triple V's Kamayan, Dad's and Saisaki last September 19, 2009. It was his first time to go "Eat-all-You-Can" and he was disappointed! He gave up EATING for that day ONLY!

Materials: Fancy Pants About a Boy pps (Chillin' and Rockin'), cardstocks, Daisy D's Family rubons, AC Thickers puffy letter stickers, buttons, DMC thread, Fancy Pants felt arrow, Colorbox gold ink and fluid chalk ink, ticket sticker, Ranger Glossy Accents, MM acrylic paint, Tattered Angel Glimmer Mist and 3 laces colors moss green, cream and blue.

Techniques Used: hand cutting, stamping and painting. The 2 techniques for the lace were knotting and putting them on the paper edges.

These pictures were already printed and ready to be scrapped even before October came, but because of too many things to do and a trip with friends, it was only today that I was able to do the layout. This layout was done in about an hour, as I was running out of time. I got a text message from my cousin that the Surf Break 4 in San Juan, La Union will be next week already (I was first told it will be in November), and because I am going to stay in La Union until the undas (my father was laid to rest in the same town), I only had this time to do this layout.

This was the only layout I created without a journaling. But talking about the pictures, these were taken 06 March 2008, when us three siblings went on a trip to Vigan a day after our father's 1st year death anniversary. It was our second time to visit the belfry of Bantay Church in Ilocos Sur, but it was our first time to climb up the belfry and enjoy the view. It was a bit difficult to climb up, but once at the top, the view was just breath taking.

I used my camera to capture the image of the layout.

Meet our October challenger, TIMI MERCADO

I am Timi Mercado a college teacher by profession, married to Danny for 14 years and a mom to Jigs and Dannah. I started scrapbooking in the year 2000 so that makes it nine years and still counting. I completed my first scrapbook in Feb 2000. It was not as good as my scrapbooks now, very crude shall I say but it paved the way to my journey to the world of scrapbooking! But it was only in 2003 that I discovered that there were materials really intended for this craft and only in 2006 that I began to make 12x12 LOs using all those acid-free stuff and the rest is shall I say history.

When I started scrapbooking, it was just a hobby. Now, it’s a passion and a way of life.There are many reasons why I love to CREATE: to preserve wonderful memories of myself and the persons important to me; my scrapbooks will be my legacy to the future generations of my family; it also sees me through during not so good times. Just seeing what I have accomplished in the past nine years is enough to take away the blues and all those stresses; and it is a way of expressing myself.

The challenge

How time flies! It's my birth month once again. Another year older and I'd like to believe, another year wiser. This is my second birthday challenge, the first of which was on my blog last year. Now for my challenge...

I just love lace! I enjoy incorporating lace on my layouts. I love the romantic feel and the feminine touch it adds to a layout. Since I love lace very much, I have a collection of different types of lace (from heavy lace to sheer ones) in different colors and widths. For my challenge, I'd like you to incorporate at least three different types of lace on your layout but the twist it use these laces in at least two different ways. You may use it as background or border, tie it, pleat it or make it into ruffles. Your choice! The theme is up to you as well as the number of photos you would like to use in your layout.

Here are the requirements:

1) Layouts can be 12x12 or 8.5x 11, traditional or digital.
2) The layouts should be specifically made for this challenge.
3) You can submit as many layouts as you want but you will only be entered once in the drawing for traditional and/or digital.

My family is into food business since I was in highschool. My Mom started baking brownies, banana cakes and cheese cakes, and we all help her pack and deliver them to stores and canteens. After some time, she ventured on cooking pasta and meat dishes. We have specialty dishes like her sweet and sour fish fillet, baked spaghetti, my Dad's favorite morcon, pansit bihon with chicharon toppings, pansit bam-i and palabok. But what made her successful is her fresh Lumpiang Ubod with egg wrapper...

Journaling: 25 years ago, my Mom started a small pastry business, her "GCA Brownies" was known in the little town of Los Banos. Now, she ventured on cooking... her first love and hobby! Her Lumpiang Ubod came a long way and now it's her specialty... (so sorry guys! Mom requested me not to upload the recipe.)

Problems with the monitor hindered me at first to resize and edit the pictures I intend to use for my challenge layout, but it proved to be a blessing in disguise as I realized that I needed to put a recipe for the layout. Thanks to Lee for telling about it.

My sister came home late last night, so it was only today that I was able to start and finish the layout. A buzzer beater for me. =)

Journaling:
When I was still much younger, I remember telling my brother that I don’t know how to cook. He told me that if I love to eat, I also must know how to cook, so I could sustain my love to eat. I cannot recall that particular time when I finally mustered the courage to handle oil splashes and the heat in the kitchen, but it was that particular message that really opened my senses to realize that as a human, I also must know my way in the kitchen.

Being born in a family of foodies, I am happy that my love of eating now goes beyond fast food and boiled eggs. Cooking is one great skill to know, and now, not only can I sustain my tummy, I can also sustain my food blog with some foods I cooked in the kitchen. These three dishes were just some of those I cooked. – Jenn (29 September 2009)

As for the recipes, I didn't really want to expose the recipes, so I decided to use three pictures and have the recipes hidden. Actually, the pull out journaling not only have the recipes for each dish, it also had some introduction about the dishes.

Creamy Carbonara
Before, it was just a dream of mine to cook carbonara, because I always fail whenever I make a roux. But, when I was invited by my SFC friend Ela to help with the carbonara dish she is serving, I realized I don’t really need a roux to make a delicious carbonara dish. This dish was cooked, served, and shot 10 July 2009, when
I needed to put an entry in my food blog. This dish was one of the easiest dishes I can whip up.

Ingredients:
250g. spaghetti, cooked
1 (250ml) box all purpose cream
1/4 kl. ham or bacon, cubed
button mushrooms, sliced
1 cup evaporated milk
3 big cloves of garlic, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Dash of nutmeg
Dash of Italian seasoning
Cheese
1 tablespoon butter
Cayenne pepper (optional)

Directions:
>>> Sauté garlic in butter. Add ham or bacon just before the garlic starts to brown and allow the meat to cook for a while.
>>> Add mushrooms then pour cream and milk slowly. Stir a bit and simmer until the sauce starts to thicken.
>>> Upon your discretion, add some grated cheese to help the sauce to thicken, but it’s totally optional.
>>> Just before the sauce gets too thick, season the sauce with some salt and pepper and some nutmeg and Italian seasoning.
>>> Pour over cooked spaghetti, sprinkle with cheese and some cayenne pepper if you want your dish to be slightly spicy.

Chicken Macaroni Soup
The chicken macaroni soup is one of my rainy day comfort foods. The hot creamy soup just helps ease up the stress, and is really a soul food in itself. It was through my mom that I learned that the way the dish creamier is to allow the pasta to cook along with the chicken, because the starch from the pasta will help in making the soup creamier, and it also helps in saving time in the kitchen. This dish was cooked, served, and shot 22 November 2008.

Ingredients:
205g. shell macaroni
1 (370ml.) can evaporated milk
Chicken, cut up to pieces
1/2 cup cabbage, shredded
1/2 cup carrots, julienned
celery and red bell peppers, chopped
1 tablespoon butter
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1 medium sized onions, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Enough water to cook the pasta.

Directions:
>>> Sauté garlic and onion in butter. Add the chicken pieces and sauté until the chicken changes in color. Season with salt and pepper.
>>> Add the macaroni and pour enough water. Boil.
>>> Add the vegetables and milk and simmer until the pasta is al dente and the soup is creamy.
>>> Serve immediately.

Some Notes:
>>> Serve with garlic bread if desired. You can do that by spreading some butter in slices of bread and sprinkle with garlic bread seasoning. Toast.
>>> Some people serve this dish with toasted garlic bits on top. Try it, too, if you want.
>>> Other vegetables you can add include green beans and cauliflower. Explore and enjoy!

Buttered Prawns - Dampa Style
Once, we were quite tired eating the same old halabos na hipon every time mom would buy prawns. So when she bought some prawns sometime in 2006, I decided to check my brother’s collection of Food Magazines for a different prawn recipe. This recipe by Mayeth Toledo was published in the September 2005 issue of the said magazine. The picture I used for this was cooked, served, and shot 04 September 2008.

Ingredients:
1/2 kilo tiger prawns
1 cup clear soft drinks (7-Up or Sprite)
1 tablespoons cooking oil
3 tablespoons butter, divided
2 tablespoons chopped onions
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 small ginger, crushed
3 tablespoons ketchup
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon liquid seasoning
1 tablespoon cornstarch, dissolved in
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoons chopped spring onions or leeks
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
>>> Marinate prawns in soft drinks for 30 minutes. Remove from marinade and reserve marinade.
>>> In a pan or large skillet, heat oil and one tablespoon of the butter and sauté the onion, garlic, and ginger.
>>> Stir in prawns. Add one-half of the soft drinks used as marinade, and the ketchup, liquid seasoning, salt, and pepper. When the prawns change color, stir in the cornstarch solution. Simmer until mixture thickens.
>>> Turn off heat. Blend in remaining two tablespoons butter.
>>> Sprinkle with spring onions before serving.

Here’s my simple layout for this month’s challenge.

Journaling: I’m not an expert when it comes to cooking but I try my best to come out with something new. Tonight I experimented with chicken thigh fillet and some pasta. It must have been good coz Julia said…”mommy’s cooking is the best!” Now, we have “pasta night” at least once a week! (12Sept2009)

The Recipe:
Angel Hair Pasta with Chicken Fillet
1) Cook angel hair pasta the set aside.
2) Season chicken thigh with salt, pepper and a little oyster sauce. Let stand for at least 30 mins.
3) Stir-fry chicken in olive oil until cooked then set aside.
4) Heat putanesca sauce (fresh from the jar – bought at gourmet café in Tagaytay) then toss pasta in. Top with chicken and parsley.
5) If you prefer white sause, prepare creamy garlic sauce accdording to package directions (made by McCormick and bought at the supermarket) then mix with pasta and again top it off with chicken and parsley.
VOILA! Dinner is served!

Creamy Beef Tofu

Ytet says, Kaya!

A little twist of Beef Steak ala Crema from the recipe booklet of Life's Rich! with Nestle All Purpose Cream. A dish to celebrate my son's birthday!

Journaling:My son asked me to cook beef steak ala crema. But there were about less than 1/2 kilo of beef strip left in the freezer. Since tofu was available inside the fridge, I used it as meat extenders and put some bokchoy leaves to add color. It was surprising that the tofu blended well with the cream sauce. We all loved the come out of this recipe.

Ingredients:
* 1/2 kg beef sirloin, thinly sliced, cut into strip
* 18g Maggi Magic Sarap
* 2tbsp Maggi Savor, calamansi
* 1/4 cup cooking oil
* 1 med Onion, sliced into rings
* 1 250ml Nestle All purpose cream
* 1 pck Tofu
* 2 pcks Bokchoy Leaves ( Taiwan Pechay)

Procedures:
1. Rub beef with Maggi MAgic sarap and Maggi Savor. Marinate for at least 20 minutes.
2. Cut tofu into cubes, drege in flour. Fry until golden brown, set aside.
3. Heat oil, saute onions for 2 minutes or until crisp tender, then set aside.
4. In the same pan, add marinated beef and pan fry until brown. Add fried onions, tofu and bokchoy leaves. Pour in teh cream, simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and serve.

Jeanie says KAYA!

Crab Maritess is one of our favorite dishes so when Gracie posted this challenge, it was not difficult to choose a dish to feature in my LO. The journalling of the recipe and notes is hidden in the tab I created. [ETA] I also created a packagign I can put in this dish that I chose.

Ingredients:

4 female crabs (engorged with aligue)

1 cup of Olive Oil

Garlic

Lee Kum Kee Chili Garlic Sauce

3 stalks Lemon Grass (I used only the 1st 5 inches from the base) chopped

Kutsay for Garnishing

Instructions:

Stab the crabs. In a food processor put olive oil and garlic. Blend.

Heat olive oil in a wok. Stir fry chopped lemon grass.

Add olive oil- garlic mixture. Saute crabs. Add chili garlic sauce

I actually transferred the crabs in a baking dish and continued cooking it in a microwave.

Clean up the wok by wilting kutsay. To serve put the crabs on top of stir fried kutsay.

Journaling: This is definitely one of our all-time favorite dishes.

Ummm... I love Gracie's yummy challenge !

Last week, we celebrated my sister’s House Warming party with a few of her friends. Some of her American friends requested me to cook Pancit. They love to attend a Filipino party just to eat the Filipino pancit and egg rolls. I cooked pancit as the party was potluck and took a bottle of wine in a gift bag handmade from used JC Penny's store paper bag.

Ingridients:
1 (8 once) package bihon (rice) noodles
1 carrot - pealed and sliced into strips
1 cup broccoli - shredded
1 cup green beans - sliced
1 cup mushrooms - sliced
3 cups chicken broth
3 eggs - hard boiled
1 0nion - pealed and sliced
2 tablespoon of olive oil
¼ cup soy sauce
½ teaspoon black pepper

Directions:
Grease a large pan or wok with oil. Sauté the onions with all the vegetables and add soy sauce and black pepper and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from pan and set aside. Pour the chicken broth into the pan and bring to boil. Stir in the noodles and cook for 5-8 minutes. Serve the pancit on a plate, topping it with vegetables and sliced hard boiled eggs.

Glued the two printed papers and shaped the edges.
Matted the two clear capital title letters on black card stock.
Computer typed the ingredients and directions on a shaped
note paper and matted it on black cardstock.
Made a gift bag out of used store paper bag.

Gracie says, KAYA!

Journaling:
After several times of trying different cupcake recipes, I finally found the one that suites my taste. A soft & spongy cupcake with a fudgy, yummy taste. Now I can start baking these goodies for birthdays, family/ friends gatherings, give them as gifts or just to satisfy my chocolate cravings.

Recipe:
Chocolate Fudge Cupcakes
Yield: 24 cupcakes
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour unsifted
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter or margarine room temperature
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups milk
3 ounces unsweetened chocolate melted

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Combine flour, baking powder, soda and salt.
3. In large bowl, cream butter and sugar with electric mixer until light and fluffy.
4. Add eggs, one at a time, and vanilla; beat thoroughly.
5. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition.
6. Add melted chocolate and beat thoroughly.
7. Scoop batter into cupcake cups about 2/3’s full.
8. Bake 20-25 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Cool for 10 minutes before decorating.

What's Cookin'?

Can you smell that? There's something in the air. Is it maybe...Christmas (gasp) already? Well the -ber months are here and I heard my first Christmas song early this morning. And chanelling my inner Grinch, I just had to exclaim - “Blast this Christmas music. It’s joyful and triumphant!”
Oopps...sorry, went a little off-tangent there. But before I go off-tangent again, let me introduce our latest challenger.

GRACIE - Grace in the kitchen and grace while scrapbooking...

I'm Gracie Ann Tan from Angeles City, Pampanga, a place known to have good food and cooks. I'm married to a very loving and supportive husband and a mom to a 2 year old girl who also loves to join me while I scrap and cook. I started scrapbooking in 1999 but stopped along the way. I started scrapping again July of 2008 and been hooked to it since then. I believe I got my artistic side from my dad who loved to draw and my love for cooking from my mom who is one of the best cooks I know. I currently own a small online scrapbook store called The Scrap Yard Shop. I also co-manage our family business which is a perfume shop here in Pampanga. Are you ready for her challenge?

September has got to be one of my favorite months. It marks the beginning of the "ber" season and it's also a month of birthday celebrations in our family (including mine). And when there's a celebration it means there's food right? Before I fell in love with scrapbooking, my first love was cooking & baking. And lately I've learned to enjoy both and thought of combining the two hobbies. No, I will not ask you to cook your patterned papers and embellishments (lol), but I've cooked up a challenge for every food lover out there.

Here are the requirements:

For my digital entry, the pics I chose were taken during the Opening Ceremonies of the Annual Convention of the Philippine Society of Pathologists. It was during this time where I was one of those who was bestowed the title of Fellow in Anatomic Pathology for the second time, the first time being 4 years ago as Fellow in Clinical Pathology. It was during this moment that I felt truly complete - having attained the highest title of my profession, being side by side with my husband, and with our baby to complete the whole package.

For my traditional entry, I chose pics taken with baby Eagan (then barely a month old) and my dear mother-in-law before she left for Seattle. It was one of those weekends where my husband felt just like driving away from the craziness of the city and randomly picked White Rock. Our stay was only short but sweet, just relishing the moment under the sun with loved ones amidst the warm summer breeze.

I waited for you for six long years until one day you come to our life. The day I tested positive, Erwin and I had a mixed emotions. Happy because I’m pregnant again for the 4th time and afraid because I might had a miscarriage again. We seek advice from friends and I finally ended up to have a very good doctors around me who keeps on monitoring my conditions. I was house arrest for 6 months. Everyday injections were administered. Tons of medicines were taken everyday. Weekly checkup and ultrasound was done Erwin was so fragile with my condition until the BIG day come, Dec 06, 2008, 4:49AM I gave birth to our son,

I like Leica's challenge. Since it is about ourselves, I chose the portrait shots that my husband took after buying his first strobist kit. I am not very much into posing for the camera but since it was only him and I inside the room, it became easier and the shots turned quite well and he was able to practice.

I was thinking of whether to use traditional or digital. I still have a couple of unused kits in my stash but I cannot properly execute the things I want in paper so I opted for a digital layout.

About a week ago, I received an announcement that We Are Story Tellers is closing down and all digital items in the website are on sale. I purchased a couple of masks, templates, brushes and alphas and I've been itching to use them since. Hence, I've decided to go digital with this challenge and I used some of my fave vacation photos.

Touring Bantayan Island in rented bikes was really a great idea. We had so much fun exploring the community. I was a bit wary at first because I was afraid I won't be able to keep up with you. I thought I did ok, a bit sweaty from the exercise but happy to have tried something new. (April 2007)

I have a design layout in mind but I just don't have a title for this one. Timi and Yvette thought about the title "Beginning Today" because of my new shift in life and career (kuno!) and that I must continue to grow and find peace in whatever I want to do. Tama nga naman and so here's my layout...

For our third anniversary, we have decided to take a weekend trip to Malaysia. We enjoyed the sights, and had a taste of the local delights. It was a wonderful vacation. But what made it even more memorable is when my Cookie popped the question. And with tears brimming in my eyes, I said "Yes!".

This layout was supposed to be posted last week, but I cannot find my craft knife to cut out the letters for the titles. Good thing I found it last night, so now I can post this layout. Thanks for the challenge, Leica. This is now layout #2 for this year for me. I know it sounds funny, but it was more of a relief that I am slowly getting back.

Journaling:
"Coming home after our visit to the cemetery, brother and I decided to come with our Aunt and cousins back to their house for us to take pictures of the tobacco and corn fields. It was supposed to be for a cell phone photo contest I wished to join, but I think I got more than what I hoped for. Aside from taking the pictures, I was able to enjoy playing in the haystack with nieces Michelle and Ian, and I was also able to herd goats. A great day, indeed!"

Materials Used:
I seriously can't distinguish all - for my papers were quite old, some I bought from scrapbook sales, some were given to me by the ever nice and generous scrappers, but I do know some papers were SEI, Cherry Arte, and Making Memories. The font for the "countryside" is Syncronous, and the font for the journaling is Century Gothic. I also used DMC thread for the stitching, and a jelly letter sticker (the letter "J" in the middle of the flower) from Craft Express.

This is kinda easy. Arnold and I have a lot of pictures in his car mainly because we get bored while on the road. Also, I find it funny that even while driving he'd look straight in the camera not minding that his attention deviates from the road for a few secs.

Technique Used:
I layered some papers to create some sort of dimension. The "swirl accent" was actually traced from a backing of a chipboard on an old gift wrapper. I just placed some rhinestone accents to put more emphasis on it. I made a "polaroid frame" on the biggest picture to put focus on that picture.

August is UPCAT (UP College Admissions Test)month! This year I was assigned to administer the test in Tarlac City. I was there from July 30 to August 2. On our first day, my partner from UP Diliman, Tita Felna Laurel went to the Isdaan Restaurant in Gerona, Tarlac which is 30 min. away from Tarlac City. Isdaan is famous for its TACSIYAPO wall where you can release your all your anger and frustrations by throwing plates, mugs, wall clocks or even TV sets on the wall and shouting TACSIYAPO on the top of your voice. Aside from that, the place is a good venue for a pictorial. Here are some of my photos at Isdaan which I included on this layout:

Before we got married, we loved oddball adventures. We travelled a lot. We enjoyed visiting different places and having so much fun along the way. These photographs were taken on our 2nd trip to Villa Lorenza last February 10, 2007. We visited the place once before but it felt a bit short and we couldn't really get to unwind as much. This time around, we stayed there for the weekend. We relaxed, watched movie, did karaoke, and of course...we swam like fishes to our hearts contest. Wish we can do that more often now, with Hannah tagging along.

Time for a new challenge! And I'm proud to introduce to you our very young challenger. Many of you might have met her at your LSS or sales events, because this scrapper has a nose for bargains. I was actually beginning to suspect she hoards more than she actually scraps but she's proven me wrong.

Getting to know Leica -

I am Leica Ann Odulio and I started scrapbooking when I was still in grade school but have seriously pursued when I was in 2nd year college. I absolutely appreciate this hobby as it is connected with my chosen career in life. I am a pre-school teacher and I am very happy that my luxurious hobby is being paid off as I practice my “creativity” because of this hobby. I am just lucky that whatever I learn in this leisure is also developing me as a pre-school teacher. From the innovative tools that I use, the delightful embellishments that give things an extra “oomph”, the way I narrate events and most of all on how I always see something special in everything in life. Now, that I am leaving our country I must somehow pause in scrapping or at least in hoarding (hehehe). I am very happy to at least to share some of my things with my fellow scrapbooking enthusiasts and challenge you all to do something Leica-ish.

THE CHALLENGE:

This August I want you all to be free and use any theme for this challenge. Now you might ask what’s the challenge with that right? I just have TWO major requirements.

1) Being Leica means being vain especially in photos. So I decided that as a part of the requirements, I want you to be in the pictures. You may not be the exact subject of the photos, but at least I want you to be with the subject.

2) I need three photos in your layout. No matter what size those photos are as long as there are 3 photos and I can see you in all 3 photos you are already qualified to join.

And then we have the usual Kaya requirements:

1) Layouts can be 12x12 or 8.5x 11, traditional or digital.
2) The layouts should be specifically made for this challenge.
3) You can submit as many layouts as you want but you will only be entered once in the drawing for traditional and/or digital.
4) Deadline for submissions is on: August 30, 2009, 11:59 PM, Manila Time.

For the prizes I put on 2 whole lines of 7 gypsies papers (Calais and Zanzibar), some embellishments like Maya Road sheer journaling, some laces and pom pom ribbons , flowers (Prima and Rekindled Moments) and some knick knacks. Both traditional and digital winners get the same RAK.

This was a no-brainer for me. My eyeglasses are just as important as the water I drink everyday. Because without it, I don't think I can survive for long.

I had to wear eyeglasses rather early in my life. I am thankful for my clearer vision, now but it can be quite irritating having it on all the time. So now I am contemplating on getting prescription contact lenses - but my optometrist says it's too early to wear one. So ano ba talaga, lola?

Journaling:
Reality check: I can't function without wearing my trusty reading glasses. I am a young lola, and it's a fact. Sooner I accept that, the better.

I did not have second thoughts at all when i thought of "the thing" that's most important to me. It's my phone - I guess most of us can't live without our phones but I specifically can't live without my iPhone. It has everything I want in a phone!

Journaling:
Been with you for almost 2 years now... I can never let you go. Life just wouldn't be complete without you. YOU COMPLETE ME.

Techniques Used:
For my take - I am so in love with canvass and distressing lately so I decided to do one more. I painted the canvass with black Kaiser paint and then I stamped and embossed it with silver powderys, to simulate the color of my phone (Black and Silver). Then I created another small canvass and stamped and embossed it with black powder and distressed the edge. I also splattered some black paint over the page to add some more splatter that the page already has. Lastly, going through my alpha's was fun and I also realized I have tons! :)

Materials Used:
PPS - Miss Elizabeth, Canvass cloth, Kaiser Acrylic Paint, Ranger embossing powder (black and silver), TH vintage photo distress ink, Palette glue pad, DCWV cardstock (mat), 7 Gypsies photo carousel card, black sakura aqua lip, alpha's - Thickers, all about scarpbooking & MAMBI.

About ME:
I'm a scrapaholic! Started scrap shopping when there were barely any suppliers here and that was 7 years ago. Since I only had my own scrapbook room last year. that's when I started scrapping and got introduced to the different suppliers here! Since then i've attended a few workshops and have only been active in blogging a month ago.

It took me quite a while to decide what item I would scrap about. I finally chose the Alcogel as it's something I always have with me these days. It's not really something I cherish but I find very useful. When I pick up Sophia from school, the first thing we do is use the alcogel. I have become quite OC in using it specially coming from the bank, mall, hospital, paying for parking and after having contact with another person's hands. When we get home though, we wash our hands thoroughly with soap and water.

Journalling:
Soap & water has always been my choice fore clean hands. But with the spread of the AH1N1 virus, I have alcogel with me all the time. I have a small one in my bag and a full sized one in the car. So anytime I am out and handle money or touch doorknobs or need to mix a bottle of milk for Sophia, the alcogel keeps our hands clean and hopefully the viruses away.

Material used:
Patterned paper and CS SEI; Chipboard letters 2 different Basic Grey chipboard, Chatterbox, Scenic Route, Heidi Swapp, Scrapworks and MM; Tsukineko Brilliance Chocolate ink; Dymo labelmaker.

Techniques: Mostly just cut and paste. I inked the different chipboard letters to unify the look.

This is my first time to submit a digital LO for Kaya. I really love this picture of our rings that I decided to do another layout about it. It seems that the first traditional LO is not enough to share how special our marriage is, which is symbolized by these rings.

Journaling: each ring is a promise, one to the other,that even if we will never have everything,we will always have each other. each ring is a symbol, of enconditional love and a dream of a lifetime together.

Marney is my favorite among my stuffed toys. He's the only one allowed to sleep beside me every night. The first time I saw him, I thought he was gay because of the pink scarf around his neck. It turns out that the scarf is a tie bend sideways. Still, he will always be my own little homo-monkey. =)

Techniques Used:
I layered different papers from AAS and Craft Express. For the title, I used a matchstick to create the words "bed" with acrylic paint and stickers for the word "mate". For the big letter M, I used glitter to make it stand out even more. I used ribbons to border my journaling.

As a child in the Philippines, when I got home from school, the first thing I did was look for the walis and sweep the whole house. I was playful and made every moment with the walis joyful. My parents tried to hide their disappointment and unhappiness over my affair with the walis. They even nicknamed me “Miss Walis”.

As I grew, my interest became more diverse and complex, particularly with college and then going abroad. After years of traveling throughout the Southern Hemisphere, I thought, I was prepared for everything, but I never thought I would find a replacement for my walis. But, there is! It’s the VACUUM CLEANER.

I embraced it the moment I first saw it! I found out that using the vacuum cleaner around the house has brought me joy rivaling my childhood emotions when sweeping with the WALIS.

Journaling:
When I was a little girl, I hated ironing, but I loved to sweep the whole house with our walis (broom).
Now, that I'm grown, I still dislike to iron, but I love to vacuum the house with our vacuum sweeper.

Materials used:
DCWV and Ms. Elizabeths pattern paper, Wasau cardstock, Colorbok chipboard letters, Sizzix die cuts letters, MM brads, Swirl clips, computer type journaling, Scotch double sided tape and glue stick.

Techniques:
Paper layering, tearing, matting
Hand made bracket and matted on black cardstock
Clipped the swirl clips on strip of black cardstock and
attached brads in between.

This LO is a tribute to my husband's ring that was lost a few months back when it slipped off his finger and dropped straight into the drain hole. Needless to say, we will never get it back. At least I have a picture to remember it by.

For my traditional entry, I chose this THING more precious to me than anything. I am not the type who likes wearing jewelry much. I prefer just being bare or if the occasion calls for it, would just settle myself with simple cheap bling. But eversince my husband (then my boyfriend) gave me his precious heirloom, his mom's gold necklace, I swore to wear it every single day of my life. In addition to this is our gold wedding ring (of course) which bears the inscription "Edison (heart) Laarni 08-08-08".

Journaling:
Gold to symbolize your undying love for me. Gold to symbolize our union as we each said "I do" and expressed our unwavering loyalty. Gold to symbolize forever!

The Wedding Planner

I chose to create a digital layout for this entry as I do not have a lot of materials to work on a traditional LO. I hope you will like it.

I have been a wedding planner for 3 years now. With clients from here and abroad, it is very critical that I deliver my job on time and as I have committed to my clients. I remember, 3 years ago I wanted to buy an HP IPAQ so I can be on the go and still be able to check on the things I need to do. It did not materialize and I was stuck with the bulky planner all the time.

Years passed and with all the modern technology around us, I still use a traditional planner to organize my schedule. Now, I no longer consider it bulky. I find it more comfortable and safe to be brought anywhere. That is why, this traditional planner is now known to me as "The Wedding Planner."

Journaling:
being a wedding planner is a tedious task. a lot of schedules have to met on time as committed. with the modern technology around us, i still opt to use my traditional planner to organize my schedule.

Since I actually just scrapped about my addictions last month for another challenge, I had to think of someTHING else I wanted to scrap about for the Kaya challenge. It wasn't so hard, really. I just thought of what I was craving for while I was thinking. And I was definitely craving for ice cream! LOL! Mier and I just finished this 800mL container in one sitting and I thought of taking a picture of it for my layout. The picture is starting me drool again....

Journaling:
When the going gets tough, the tough gets going and going and going. And what keeps me going is Coffee Crumble ice cream! The SIGHT of its golden brown cover and the FEEL of its cold container makes my mouth water! I can actually HEAR it call my name! The TASTE and SMELL are just heavenly! :D

Technique Used:
I used different kinds of Craft Express Stickers for the title. I have all these stickers with missing letters alreaday and I thought Roxanee's challenge was just perfect for these. I still have a lot, though. Must use them for other layouts.

It's UP Los Banos centennial year! I have spent 21 years of my life in this institution as a student and a teacher. Whenever I see the UPLB Centennial logo (it's located near UP Gate, the main entrance to the UPLB campus), there's this small voice telling that I should have my photo taken with the logo as background. This logo was installed there last year but it was only last June when I got the chance to pose for some photos. Thanks to Issa who took my photos.

Of these 100 years, I spent 21 years of my life in this institution, as an undergraduate (1988-1992) and graduate student (1994-2001) and as an employee (1993-present). This year a lucky one for me. I co-authored a book on organic rice production and got promoted from Asst Prof 4 to Asst Prof 7. I'm so thankful!

This month's challenge is quite unique and is something new for me since I have never scrapped about anyTHING besides snaps of living beings that constantly inspire me each day. Thanks to Roxannee, I got inspired to create a layout of one of the things that play an important role in my life, yet I have taken for granted as the years went on. This THING is my microscope, an Olympus CH30, which I am so fond of to the point of giving it a name - Oly!

Journaling:
Since I bought my microscope more than a decade ago with my first paycheck, it has always been a constant companion through the ups and downs of my profession - from my early years of training and reviewing for the specialty boards, during the actual practical exam where I brought it along with me for luck, and now as my handy buddy at home. With it, I can finish work faster at home to be able to spend more time with my hubby and son.

Most of my works focused on my kids and my family, seldom do I make something for myself. After my Bohol trip, I began to enjoy creating "All About ME" themes and it made me love myself more... hehehe! Thanks to Roxanne's Kaya Challenge, this could add up to my own pages.

THING?! I can only think of my scrapbook stash when you ask me about inanimate things that are important to me right now... but I guess it has to be something else other than my bisyo. I came up with these two things that have been my constant companion and pacifier... my Non-Stop Cellphone and MP3 player!

Journaling... in good times and bad times... These two important gadgets never fail me! My Nokia N79 cellphone keeps me connected in just anywhere that I go and my Creative Zen MP3 player keeps me company with my music in just any mood that I have... July 2009.

Materials Used: Basic Grey pps -Lucky/Sweet Lavender, Aged and Confused/ Phresh and Phunky Phoilage and checkered, MM music note Falala pps, K&Co lace cardstock letters, DCWV cardstock, Heidi Swapp chipboard clock face, Scenic Route chipboard, AAS brads, glittered glue, MM acrylic paint-brown, Ranger glossy accents, Marcellas metal accents, Colorbox chalk ink and for the different fonts of the title... Craft Express, Heidi Swapp and AC Thickers chipboard letters.

Techiques Used: Paper tearing , inking and distressing ( my favorite thing to do!), Paper piecing for the round flowers (muka bang flowers yong round things ko?), cutting and painting. I painted the different kinds of font to get a uniform look on the title.

When Roxannee's challenge called for an important thing, I mentally reviewed and rejected many of the things that make life more convenient like television, computers, mobile phones, etc. I wanted to come up with a layout that showcased the thing that was significant to me, right at this moment.

This blue bike was gifted to me by my husband, who became a biking afficionado practically overnight. He wanted me to be part of his new hobby so he got this bike (when what I was asking for was a new camera - but that's another story.)

Journaling Reads:
DH bought me this bike so we can share a hobby. I'm glad that after 12 years of marriage, he still wants us to do things together. I'm not a confident biker and I try his patience but we still have fun and keep fit together. (5/1/2009)

I used to have a red bike in the 1980s. I rode it at the athletic field in front of our house. I loved the speed and the wind in my hair. Now, on my blue bike, I feel like a kid again.

About ME:
I am wife to a most supportive husband for 12 years now, mom to 3 KiDS, been a SAHM and scrapper for 3 years, and now a student of public administration in U.P. I am really trying hard to concentrate on the lectures and discussions in class, but more often than not, I find myself making scrapbooks in my head. I'm so flattered to be this month's challenger. I love alphabets and I thought that we have to relax a little bit on scrapping photographs of ourselves & our loved ones. Let's make it a little bit different this time. Let's get to know you more with the help of your "ThiNgS". I have to confess that I did not expect to be challenged myself! (di ba, Ms.Lee?)Now here's my take:

This is my important thing at the moment. A little notebook that hubby gave me last year. Left lying around for quite a while until one day in October 2008, when I felt so powerless and useless because problems & trials kept on coming, hubby said something that never left my mind. "You cannot stop the rain from falling. You can only cover yourself from getting wet." I thought that was wonderful so I wrote it down. The rest is history. A notebook from a special person who said words that started something even more special- a whole new thing to read each day. I still need it, I'm still recovering.

Journaling:
This tiny notebook from Ron is a great source of strength. It has remarkable quotes, affirmations and prayers that help keep me going each day. It's my rock. 30 June 2009.

Kaya 27 - It's Got To Be SomeTHING Mixed With aLpHaS!

Can it be? It's already July. Half the year is over. Time flies by so fast when you're having fun.

Starting this month, we thought we'd do things a little differently by sharing a bit more about our monthly challengers. Really, this blog is fueled not only by the participants' enthusiasm, but by the creativity and generosity of our challengers as well. We think it's just fitting that we get to know more about them.

Our challenger for this month is....ROXANNEE!

Roxannee (Rok-sa-ni) says,

I'm into my third year of scrapping now...I've been longing to do this way back in 2000 (that was when I started hoarding) but did not really get serious until baby number two came out. There are too many gorgeous moments of my family being captured and I thought that it is a shame to just frame them or keep them in a plain album. The reasons to start scrapping just started piling up since then.

Aside from the journaling, which reveals what's inside the heart of the scrapper, my favorite part of scrapping is the time before I finally complete the layout- this is when I realize that all the elements come together unintentionally. It's the time when every element is no more a piece of itself but becomes a part of a whole new thing. My least favorite is the beginning...what picture to scrap and what to do with it. I guess in any project, the planning stage takes so much of one's time.

I can only scrap on my free time - which is almost impossible to have when you are juggling running the house and having a school kid and a toddler. It makes me feel that work is my time to relax. :-)

Scrapbooking has given me so much more than I've expected. I have tried a lot of craft activities but this particular hobby is the best. I think it is the "preserving the memory" factor and no set rules. I discovered that in scrapbooking, you can evolve as a creative individual at your own pace, in your own time. No set rules, no counting threads or patterns.

Scrapbooking as a therapeutic activity is a cliche but I stand by it. The year 2008 was challenging and this hobby was my constant companion- it helped me focus on my new life now as a parent to my kids and a life partner to my hubby (they are my subjects most of the time). The process of moving on and letting go was more bearable. It made me feel better about myself & gave me something to look forward to. Not to mention the friends that I've met through this group. I think that I'll scrap throughout my life.

THE CHALLENGE

I’m pretty sure that you are undergoing a certain phase in your life right now.
It can be big or small, simple or complicated.
Whatever stage it might be, there must be some kind of THING that inspires you.
Or some THING that is a constant companion.
Some THING that is cherished and treasured...
Some THING that you really love or like- right now.

So for this month's challenge, I present:

It’s Got To be SomeTHING Mixed with aLpHaS!

The Rules are:

1. Make a layout of the most important THING (must be an inanimate object) in your life right here, right now. It can be 12x12 or 8.5x 11, traditional or digital.

2. Photo Requirement: Any size, any number, but must highlight that THING. If you are having a hard time looking for photographs, you can be in the photo, but remember it should emphasize/highlight the most important THING.

3. Use a mix of AlphABets for your title. Each word should contain a mixture of fonts and/or materials. For traditional lay out entries, any material will do (chipboard, stamped, cut outs, plastic, vinyl, etc.). Take this opportunity to use your left over alphabets and get creative with it!

4. You should include in your journaling why that thing is important to you right now. Remember, you are recording the memories of today. It will be nice to know one day why you took a picture of that thing.

5. The layout should be specifically made for this challenge.

6. You can submit as many pages as you can (traditional or digital) about your important thing, but you can only enter once in the drawing.

7. Deadline for submissions is on: July 30, 2009, 11:59 PM, Manila Time.

Happy birthday Janis! Glad I was able to join this month's challenge.

These photos were taken last New Year's eve with my in-laws. It's a tradition that we meet for New Year's eve dinner and at the stroke of midnight we say a prayer for family unity and blessings for everyone throughout the new year. Ever since my mother-in-law passed away we take turns hosting the dinner.

I got interested in joining since I saw my mother having fun doing her entry and since I also have some artsy side, I said to myself, why not give it a try. The concept is based on June being a nationalistic month as we celebrated the 111th anniversary of our Philippine Independence last June 12, 2009. I then decided to showcase in here my Filipiniana graduation photo (taken last February 10, 2009) and one of my poems entitled: Pahina ng Saya (originally written last June 3, 2007)

Pearl is also my birthstone so I was quite excited to do the challenge but I didn't have too many pearl embellishments. So it was a lucky break (?) when one of my pearl necklaces broke - my daughters were playing with it. I still have to have it re-strung but I don't think one bead would be missed. I used it for the center of my flower. I also used seed pearls I bought in one of my many trips to the south to form loops around the flower.

This is based on a Page Map so I was able to finish it quickly. The longest part was waiting for the crackle paint and the adhesive I used to attach the pearls to dry.

I'm so happy to be submitting my first ever kaya entry. But since I didn't read the rules (or maybe I just didn't notice it hehehe), mine will be a non entry instead : ) Just let me have my layout posted here LOL!

I used #24 sketch from Inspired Blueprints in making this layout. I tried distressing, layering and even splattering paint (and I intend to do it again!) I painted the cardboard before attaching it at the back of my layout.

Btw, happy birthday janis! wishing you more layouts to make, more contests to win, more DT stints and most of all more memories to record and cherish!

I'm a bad girl, I didn't read the instructions completely before posting a page for Kaya 26! Sorry Janis, oh Happy Birthday too! And so, since I still have time to scrap, I made a new layout for this month's Kaya. Here's a photo of me using my cousin Ronald's heavy and loaded digicam... my EOS 350D came from him and he replaced it with this sweet baby EOS 40D. Now, I shouldn't be missing anything, everything needs to be captured... hahaha!

Journaling: Eversince I got hold of this baby, I promised to myself never to miss life's little treasures. Thanks to my cousin Ronald for his Cannon EOS 350D hand-me-down cam, now I never miss a thing in my life.

Happy Birthday ate Janis! This is my 2nd entry for PS... I'm so sorry for being a passive member.
The photo in the LO was taken last summer during Sam's (my niece) birthday party. The 3 of us (Nina, Icon and I) were very exhausted because we pumped some balloons for the party. But we also had fun doing it and it shows in the picture.

Hi there,

This is my first time to join a challenge in traditional scrapbooking but i have done digi over the last couple of months so pardon my layout this time.

Materials Used:
Flowers - Prima and Heidi Swapp, Diecut Alphas and photo corner - Colorbok, Patterned paper and rubons - from Studio Azul kit

Technique used:

I haven't done any technique since I have limited resources. I just started doing paper scrap since June 12 (though I've joined this group earlier) and I was only able to use the kit delivered to me from Studio Azul.

I used pearl beads on the flowers and on the rub on swirl to add accent. I can't think much of how to do it so I chose a patterned paper and replaced the circles with pearls instead.
I chose the picture of me and my husband when we got engaged since I haven't scrap about it yet and i thought this is the time to do so :)

I've been a PS member for only about 2-3 weeks and this is my first time ever to join a challenge. I had fun doing this challenge and I promise to join more!

I had so much fun doing this challenge because I got to use items that I never thought I would be able to use on my scrap pages. It really squeezed my creative juice and I'm very happy with the outcome I think this is my bestest ever layout to date - or so I think. :-)

Materials Used:
Cardstocks: DCWV luxury paper & Imaginisce, Chipboards: Inque Boutique, Lace: All About Scrapbooking, Flowers: Prima, Pearls - miscellaneous, Karen Foster Rubon, Kaiser paint, Colorbox ink pads, Ranger crackle paint and super fine embossing powder, Hero Arts stamp and Judikins diamond glaze

Techniques Used/Process:
- The huge photo corner I used is a chipboard from Inque Boutique. I fist painted it with gold acrylic and then crackle paint on top. So when it cracked you can still kinda see the gold beneath.

- The lace at the bottom of the picture is where I almost kinda gave up. I couldn’t glue the small pearl beads to it so I had to hand sew it. Anyway, when it was finished it was worth it.

- The chipboard (same IB set) on the right side is inked, stamped and embossed. I first inked it with colorbox pigment pad then embossed using hero arts script stamp and then used clear embossing powder.

- The flowers were all prima and except for the crochet piece and I just added some pearls on top.

- The bead strings shown as doodles on the flowers are actually hand made too. I just strung the beads together. I was so happy with this because I got to use my old beads that were already stuck in the basement. - How happy is that? I never thought I’d be able to use it on my scrap pages!!!

- Lastly, the title “always you” is actually a rub-on from Karen Foster and I just used Judikins Diamond glaze to lift it up.

About ME:
I'm a scrapaholic! Started scrap shopping when there were barely any suppliers here and that was 7 years ago. Since I only had my own scrapbook room last year. that's when I started scrapping and got introduced to the different suppliers here! Since then i've attended a few workshops and have only been active in blogging a month ago.

This challenge was not easy for me simply because I realized that I didn't have many pearl embellishments. LOL! So I had to check and re check my materials and see what I could use for my "pearls." :D

I used one big brad conch from Imaginise for one of the flowers. I also used MM pearl pins as part of the photo corner. Oh, and I found photo corners from Jolee's Boutique with little pearls on them. I removed some pearls lang bec the photo corners didn't really match my layout colors. Hehehe!

Greetings to the June birthday girl Janis! I would say that I am one of those scrappers who has never attended a single EB, seldom submits an entry for a challenge, and would just peek at the message threads of the group. Since I gave birth, making a layout got from occasional to rare. So when I chanced upon seeing these Pearls stickers by Hero Arts at a local craft store, I took it as a sign that I must start moving my scrap butt out of the gutter and make a layout. Thanks Janis for this challenge!

This layout is about my grandmother who has not only been an academic teacher by profession but has been my teacher about very important things in life. Making this layout allowed me to look back and ponder on all that she has imparted to me. It was especially light to make as the 'pearl' motif speaks so much of her. I like that this challenge prompted me to use some of my pearls. Like most of my embellishments, my pearls are safely hidden in my drawer waiting for that "perfect" layout. Well, there really is no such thing and I keep reminding myself to just use them. After all, if I find myself needing more pearls (or other products, for that matter) for that "perfect" layout, I can always buy from the many retailers we have in the Metro.
