It's great to back here at PS' Kaya Challenge! I made this simple page for my niece Gracie. I just love this shot, I cannot resist scrapping it. You can see so much in her eyes as a child... full of life, beauty, joy and love!



Materials Used: DCWV Cardstocks, kraft paper, Provocraft pps, WRMK Whiteout Nonsense pps, buttons, DMC thread, ribbons, glittered glue, MM heart brads and Ranger glossy accents.

Techniques Used: Distressing, Inking and Sewing. For the photo, I used vignetting and wrote the words "In your eyes" in the photo.

It has been a long time since I've joined a Kaya Challenge. I'm a dumdum when it comes to hybrid scrapping. Creating this simple page was truly hard for me to finish. I just dont now what to print from my computer and to make matters worst... I only own a laser black printer -no color prints for me! Anyway I'm glad I was able to finish this page. Sharing to you my page...Journaling: You were having a blast while in the Playroom with Daddy!!! I can see you were having a goodtime playing with all those toys around! This layout is an attempt to prove that midnight blue and coral pink works after a fledgling gay designer told me that my color scheme is not nice. I am not sure if it works though, I think it does. This layout is also an attempt to take a breather from a very stressful month at work. I was actually cutting and pasting while waiting for updates from an officemate. What one would do for scrapbooking! The kit is hello doily from aprintaday. When I saw the colors, the tea-stained papers, flowers and the birds, I knew it was perfect for my motif. I printed my journaling on one of the tags that came with the kit and I hand-cut the bird and flower images that came with the kit.

I used to do hybrid when I started scrapbooking, though I didn't know it was called hybrid back then. But due to the wide array of ready made elements such as journaling blocks, transparencies, rubons etc., playing with my computer seems irrelevant. Thanks to Alby's challenge I was able to create another hybrid LO which is long overdue, it's not only fun but brings out the scrappers flexibility and creativity. This an old photo which I think suits my thoughts for now. Journaling:
With the fast-paced life I'm currently in... tons of errands and so many things going on in my head... it's time to stop, breathe, sit back, relax and spend some me time.

Happy Mama to now happier Lilaa and Maia (ages 3 & 1.5 years old, respectively); wife to my one big love. Rekindled my love affair with Scrapbooking in May 2006. I did not realize that I have done some hybrid scrapping before. Alby, thanks for this challenge.

One of the joys of motherhood is when your child just does some crazy things that will wipe away your whinges and problems for the day...This one in particular, I know all of you are familiar with is something that I will cherish. It is a symbol of a child's innocence and carefree personality. I forgot to type {priceless} on the photo so I just used a rub on... I edited the photo using iPhoto and layered masking technique on GIMP, emphasizing the saliwang sandals.

Journaling:
Your quirkiness just puts me in stitches all the time. This is so typically you- funny yet moody, almost always doing things upside down. You make our home happy nd joyful. The laughter you bring just always remind me that life is indeed wonderful. I don't mind the noisy footsteps that I call "pitter pat" when you come along the hallway. It brings music to my ear. Someday, putting on your sandals this way will change. You'll figure out that it's the other way around. Well now, I like the way you do it. Don't change it yet for now 'coz I really enjoy it. Not yet, don't grow up yet my baby.

Photo editing, and paper punching. I also created a tab by tracing around a circle and cut half of it with craft knife.

I usually print my journalling on the computer. Recently though I've been using my handwriting. I also download a lot of free digi kits but haven't been doing any digi LOs. So this is an opportunity to use at least some digi elements.

I'm always been a traditional scrapper and I know a little about digital scrapbooking but never once made digiscrapbook pages. And now, there's hybrid scrapbooking! I didn't realized that anything that's a product of using your computer like printing your journals or using your word art and print your title and using some brushes in Photoshop would mean hybrid!! I used my dependable computer and printer almost in all my pages.

For this LO, I used the picture of my DD and I at Botanical Garden in Singapore. I printed my journaling in vellum, tore and distress it using blue versa color ink. I also print ornaments in white CS (got it from digital freebies). Printed a quote sign in acetate also from digital freebies.

Nature Calls

Oooppps!!! Some of you may think that my title “Nature Calls” may mean a trip to CR, but just because I am sitting on that wading pool doesn’t mean that! LOL!!!

This photo was taken at my favorite Michigan park. We usually visit during the pleasant month of July and the 4th is specially exciting, because in addition to boating, swimming and barbequeing, we also can witness the spectacular fireworks at night.

I printed my journaling on the computer, printed a grass pattern paper to cover the chipboard letters for my title and printed a stone shaped cut-outs to add accent to the page.

Journaling:
At Kensington Park Michigan, I took a well-deserved rest from a long walk on the walking trail. It is a huge park with lots of picnic areas, beaches, boat rentals and a paved hike-bike trail. We have our picnic basket and while eating, we savor the beautiful scenery.

Materials used:

This LO focusses on myself. I played with my stash and tried different techniques in this layout. I used a printed sentiment from my PC and attach it to the chat balloon I used along with the other sticker sentiments that describe the real me. And of course, will I forget my net? I tied it on my frame. I recycled my Prima packaging and used it as a frame. (Thanks Candy for inspiring us to recycle SB packaging materials.) Then I used an old page of a book to add layer. I have done a lot of hybrid lo since I started scrapbooking. The main reason is my lack of stash to play with. I usually make my own alphas and sentiments on my PC. I hope you love this lo.

I didn't realize that using anything from the computer for your layout (even as simple as printing your journaling or title) is already considered hybrid scrapbooking. Before we got our printer, I'd fix my pictures through photoshop, adjusting brightness and contrasts and levels, before having them printed out. Thanks to Alby's challenge, I was able to explore hybrid scrapbooking a little more.

For my layout, I used a photo of our whole family taken during our 9th wedding anniversary last 24th January 2009. I wanted to put text and flourishes on this picture but I had it printed already even before I found out about the challenge.


Journaling:
24 January 2009 – our 9th wedding anniversary. The whole family woke up early to a bright and beautiful day. The girls made cards and letters for us. So much to be thankful for!

Materials:
Studio Azul February kit (Glitz, Fancy Pants and Prima papers; ricrac ribbon; hearts chipboard; AC denim thickers) Prima flowers, MM brads, plastic letters, Colorbox ink
Digital elements I used for this layout are the following:
1. Edited my picture by adjusting brightness and contrast
2. Printed part of my title (Umagang)
3. Created the journaling block by attaching parentheses together
4. Typed and printed my journaling
5. Printed then cut flowers.

About ME:
I am in my mid-thirties, married to my bestfriend, Mier, for 8 years and blessed with three beautiful princesses, Nadine (age 7), Raya (age 5) and Alyssa (1 year). I have been fixing my photos since high school but got really serious (as in using acid free materials) in 2004 after my 2nd daughter was born. Since then I've been hooked! Took a break in 2007 when I had a difficult pregnancy with my 3rd baby but I'm now back and more addicted than ever! I believe the heart of my layouts is my journaling. I scrapbook to share myself and my stories to my children.

Weekend Escape

Since I started scrapping, I've been using digital elements on my layout, usually in the form of printed journaling, text on photos and even printed layout titles. Sometimes I add digital brushes on my photos, too. Even my past Kaya layouts usually had digital elements in them. I had no idea then that what I was doing was called Hybrid Scrapbooking.

For this challenge, I scrapped photos taken during one of our weekend escapes to Sonya's Garden. Since we live in Cavite, we sometimes drive to Tagaytay on weekends to relax and indulge in the food offerings of the various restaurants that have sprouted in the area.






Journaling:
Nothing beats stress better than a quiet weekend amidst a lush garden. That's why Sonya's Garden is one of our favorite hangouts. While Ariel is not too crazy about the food (he's not fond of greens), the restful ambiance more than make up for the lack of gustatory delight. The lush greens and colorful blooms relax both our mind and body. Can't wait for our next escape!

Kaya 23 - Going Hybrid!

We’ve gone digital. We’ve gone traditional. Now it’s time to go HYBRID! So, what is HYBRID Scrapbooking? Basically, hybrid scrapbooking is combining digital and traditional elements in your layout. It’s actually easier than you think! In fact, without knowing it, you might even be a hybrid scrapbooker already. Have you ever used computer-printed journaling on your layouts? How about digital brushes or overlays on your photos? Have you added words, journaling and titles to your photos before printing them out? Have you printed drawings, digital papers and elements to be included in your paper layout? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you are a hybrid scrapbooker.

So, for this month, I challenge you to create a 12x12 or 8.5x11 paper layout using the following requirements:

1. You can scrap about anything or anyone
2. Use only one (1) photo – any size will do, whether colored or monochrome
3. Include a visible computer-printed journaling
4. Use at least one (1) other digital element from any of the following options:

• Add words to your photo
• Add digital brushes – shapes or frames – to your photo
• Print a digital patterned paper and use it on your layout – doesn’t have to be a whole sheet, can be a small portion only; you may use it the way you normally use your patterned paper (e.g. cut it, distress it, etc.)
• Print 1 or more digital elements and use them in your layout (e.g. photo corners, journaling tags, flowers, shapes, etc.)
• Print digital brush(es) on transparency and use it on your layout

5. You can use as many traditional elements as you want on your layout.
6. Your layout must be new and specifically made for this challenge.
7. In your post, write a short description of what digital elements you used for your layout. Don’t forget to include credits for your digital and paper supplies.
8. Deadline for submission is on March 30, 2009 at 11:59pm pinoy time. The winner will be drawn and announced on March 31, 2009.

Since they were the lucky recipients of RAKs in the past two challenges (December and January), the Ching, Marian, Nina and Janis, will sit this one out. Bjay says, KAYA!

My bad. Took my sweet time before I decided to make my Kaya 22 entry. But just when I thought I have all the scrapping time in my hands, something came up that needed my undivided attention. And then there was no needle in sight! So I sew by poking all the way. Oh, heck.

I love this Rico Blanco song. When I first heard it, It became my LSS for a good 3weeks or so. So when this challenge came up, I thought a Valentine LO is in the offing. Nina was gracious enough to give her nod when I said it was also the same song playing on my mind. Thanks, Nina!


Journaling:
You can thank the stars all you want but, I'll always be the lucky one.

Materials used:
Making Memories and Basic Grey PPS (from Scrapbook Hawaii's kit): AC Thickers, MM mini alpha stickers, a homemade journaling spot, Slick Writer pen, specialty floss and buttons

Technique:
Kapiranggot na stitching and photo "raising". Base is a B&W photo but the mid-cut part is an actual colored picture adhered using some double-sided foam tape.
