Laptop

Janis says, KAYA!

Just want to mess around with my style a bit when I made this one. Glad that I was able to use those neglected ribbons and brads. Played also with crochet thread - - my fave thing on my LOs lately. Thanks Roxannee for this challenge.

Journaling is hidden on the tag (made a pocket behind the photo):
I find myself at the crossroads of my professional career, with make or break changes that I have to deal with. I guess it's gonna be you and me, buddy, holding tight in the next months. Let's see where the ride will take us.

KAYA 26 – THE PEARL CHALLENGE

I am soo honored to be invited as the guest challenger for the month of June - - my birth month. When Lee asked me, I already have a particular challenge in mind - - for this will definitely help me in my future magazine work (wink, wink). I'm sure you are familiar that June's birthstone is pearl. And so, I give you:

The Pearl Challenge!

Guidelines:

1) Your layout must have pearls - - choose from pearl centers, conchos, brads, stickers, buttons, accents and beads (basta perlas!). Sorry, but liquid pearls and pearl fabric paints do not count (although you may use them in your layouts if desired). Make sure to mention what kind of pearls did you use in your write-up.

2) Any size/number of photos of yourself (may or may not be with other people).

3) Layouts can be 12x12 or 8.5x11, should be traditional.

4) Layout must be made specifically for Kaya 26.

5) You may submit as many layouts as you want but you will only be entered once in the drawing.

6) Deadline for submissions for this challenge is on June 29, 2009 at 11:59PM.

7) Random drawing will be on June 30, 2009. The winner of the RAK will receive this:

The loot consists of 28 12x12 papers (a paper everyday of June until we reach my birthday!), some embellishments, an MM flip frame album, and an AMM accordion album. It's not much, but I do hope you join in the fun - - just consider it as your birthday gift to me. ;o)

I will be looking forward to your entries. Below, I am sharing my layout following the challenge.

I consider this only my second time to work with Websters' products faithfully (my first was "Being Your Mom" found in my blog here). I know this is something new to the graphic/cartoonish/bold/bright me, but I love challenging the flexibility of my scrapbooking style.

What I consider the tricky part in this layout was attaching the string of pearl beads on the cardboard - - almost had a nosebleed stitching them there LOL - - but in the end, it was all worth it.

A MAGICAL LIFE TOGETHER

Materials Used:
Paper: Websters (Magical Wishes), Stamp: Autumn Leaves (Elegant Fluorishes), Flowers: Prima, Ink: Ranger, Colorbox and Stazon, Others: Pearl Beads, Corrugated Board, Blings.

I'm soo bad at deadlines - - the truth is I thought I won't be joining this challenge for I'm not a fan of using fabrics on my layouts. But then, will it be so bad to try something new? DCWV cardstock, ribbons, felt cloth, mesh cloth, Tim Holtz Ticket, AAS satin flower, buttons, DMC thread, Cuttelbug diecuts (foam heart, chipboard netting), Scenic Route chipboard crown, AC Thickers (Jewelry Box), Dymo tape, Sakura Pens.

Little Girl

Janis says, KAYA!

I forgot to submit this one (had posted this in my blog last week). I chose the song "My Little Girl" by Tim Mcgraw. Scrapped the word "My" though, the cutie is my niece Jade from my Kuya. Why I chose this song? Fell in love with the lyrics so I decided to make them my journaling. Thanks Marissa for this challenge.

PROOF

Janis says, KAYA!

This is the only piece of paper (literally) from college that I kept. I had it photocopied on acetate (and made it my background, hence the sheen on the photo). I placed the actual paper inside the pocket (see arrow), it is a submission for my Philippine Literature subject discussing my view of death. Naturally since it was a literature subject, we were given the freehand on how to discuss it (please visit my blog for the contents of the paper because it?s rather long - - I thought I might as well share it, just to explain my professor?s remarks). Anyway, for this LO, I used BearyBox?s Sketch#10 (was not able to upload my entry in their gallery though, I forgot about the deadline!!!). Thanks Ching for this great challenge. ;o)

Journaling:
The last project in my Philippine Literature subject was to stage an actual play in class - - I cannot recall the title of the play but I remember that the role assigned to me was that of a child prostitute. I?d (secretly) longed to act, but the idea daunted me. I never joined any dramatic arts group in school (even though I wanted to) as I prioritized the ?intellectual? clubs.Anyway, it was my last shot - - and I gave it my all. My group did not attend class after our performance, we were just so happy that it was over. It was only during the class card distribution (and return of a previously submitted paper) that I learned of my professor ?s (whose name I have already forgotten) feedback. This is the only piece of paper from college that I kept. It has been more than 10 years now, yet every time I read this I can?t help but smile and be reminded of the drama queen in me.

Materials:
DCWV cardstocks, K&Co Papers, Xerox/acetate, woman chipboard cutout, acrylic paints, sakura pens, Uniball signo journaling pen, prima flowers, MM brads, chipboard labels (unknown), cloth flower, MM rub-ons (expressions), MM tiny alphas (pink ledger), MR sheer journal, AC Thickers (Jewelry Box, painted with pink acrylic paint, topped with Glossy Accents), Colorbox inkpads for distressing.

My P&A Family

Janis says, KAYA!

In these hard times, recycling makes perfect sense. I asked my officemates for coasters (broken CDs) and ribbons (coming from the early gifts of our big bosses ) and then made these for them (simple drilling of the CDs, paper cutting, matting then just adding the twigs and the berries with a glue gun). They were surprised at how beautiful the "scraps" turned out to be (my director even told me to consider going into this kind of business.) I initially made solo shots of us, hopefully I can also include group shots.

Thanks Candy for this challenge.

Materials Used:
Recycled CDs, ribbons, AAS handmade papers, gold twigs and glittered green berries, gold string, gluestick, tacky glue.

Nat's First Field Trip

Janis says, KAYA!

I was contemplating of not doing this last challenge - - I thought I ran out of time. But the thought of not having that raffle stub to get the chance of winning that loot made me reconsider. So, against hubby’s tantrums (it was 1am, December 1 - - no other time, honey), I did this quick LO.

I’ve been saving the pictures to do a mini-album for my daughter, but this challenge came along. Maybe next time, if I find that time. At the end, matting saved the day.

Materials Used:
Papers by Imagination project, DCWV, Craft Express, rick racks, ribbons, buttons, AAS ribbon, leather strip, and chipboards, flower chipboards by TLC, MM rub-ons (happy), felt cut-out, Cuttlebug alphabet diecuts (You’re not the Boss of Me), AC slickwriter.

Bath Time Fun

Janis says, KAYA!

Kept this one simple. I wanted to see if I could use tearing and distressing techniques on baby layouts and still maintain that fresh, not too ancient feeling (you know what I mean?). Parang pwede naman pala.

Phil @ 1

Janis says, KAYA!

I had a hard time making this challenge - - I initially thought bows are girly plus I'm not an expert bow-maker (I always ask my sister to do it for me when needed). I made a romantic LO of my daughter (using the Webster's Pages papers I bought from Iris) which I intended to submit for this challenge but I couldn't squeeze in the bow so I had to do another one. Luckily, I remembered seeing Nita Ang's LOs for Memorylane Store and was really inspired with her work. I have the same Kelly Panacci papers for the longest time - - I just tweaked some bits and added the bow. Thanks Marj for this challenge and Nita for the inspiration.

Journaling:
At 1, you like to be always cuddled by Mommy and Daddy. You're addicted to Brainy Baby DVDs. You truly are one sweet and smart kid.

Materials Used:
Papers by Kelly Panacci, AAS chipboard alphas (painted with acrylic and doodled with white sakura pen) , cuttlebug diecuts (concentric circle, circle from harmony alphabet dies, tiny tags), AAS ribbon, mm black alphabet shimmer sticker, AAS safety pins, AAS foam, clear Dymo tape, buttons, red coffee stirrer (hehehe), acrylic paints, sakura pens for the doodlings, colorbox ink for the distressing.

About ME:
Happy to report that I have made one skirt (a handsewn tutu) for my daughter to match her fairy outfit last halloween (yey!!!).... I'm currently addicted to my sakura pens (must have all colors!!!)... and Minute Maid Pulpy Orange juice drink... and acne dots from Bench (mwahahaha)...

Say Cheez

Janis says, KAYA!

After three scrapping challenges where I noticed that my LOs were mostly black, I decided that my next should be my original colorful style. I have this photo (one of my all-time favorites) for sometime now and I'm glad I was able to scrap it for this Kaya Challenge.

For this LO, I drew inspiration from the Cheez Mania Cheeseballs package for my title and color combination. Thanks for looking!

Hidden journaling (pull out):
This is part of Kuya Lester's (then aged 5 y/o) first attempt at digital photography. I remember we gamely posed for him - - but this picture stood out as his best shot ever!!!

Materials Used:
Bazzill and DCWV cardstocks, mm noteworthy felt flower, stickers, diecuts (quickutz: moxie alphabet; cuttlebug: tiny tags, typewriter alphabet, ur not the boss of me, honeycomb), white sakura, soufflé pen, mm eyelets and brads, rickrack, buttons, ubl alpha rub-ons, paper ribbon, journaling pen.

Techniques used:
Paper cutting, die cutting, stamping, doodling, layering

About ME:
I'm currently making matching embellishments for me and my daughter's clothes. Sounds cheesy so I'm gonna do it while she's still 3 y/o (LOL!!!). My ultimate dream is to make my own clothes - - I?m thinking they're gonna be mostly black with splashes of bold colors, with big
embellishments to make a major statement.....when will this happen? Dream, dream, dream.

TREASURE CANYON COVE

Janis says, KAYA!

I'm sooo excited with this Kaya Challenge because it's my first take on
making an album. I have been meaning to make one (bought the chipboard
album from Dinah more than two months ago) - - thank God the family
getaway, the inspiration and this challenge came along. ;o)

The album doubles as a wedding anniversary gift to my hubby (who I'm
pretty sure prefers to receive an action figure or a comic book but will
acknowledge my "artistic" efforts anyway LOL). Siguro ang hihingin kong
kapalit another family getaway so that I can get my pictures for a new
album. ;o)

Materials:
patterned papers (sorry, forgot from which brands - - I
got them from Lasting Impression upon the suggestion of Lisa), dcwv
glittered cardstocks, aas handmade papers, ribbon, glittered stickers, gem
conchos, brads and foam, prima flowers, mm crystal brads, blings, UBL
rub-ons, chipboard album, cuttlebug dies (hippie chick, typewriter,
babyface, curls and swirls, tiny tags), chipboard swirls, felt diecut
flower, acrylic paints, white magic from craftworld, various cloth and
paper ribbons , mm stamps, faber castell marker

Techniques:
Diecutting, distressing, doodling, tearing, matting. I
handmade/improvised the chipboard swirls and painted them with acrylic
paints then glazed with white magic.

About ME:
I still consider myself a newbie at scrapbooking - - still trying to decipher what my scrapping style is... I'm currently in love with acrylic paints - - it's fun to experiment making improvised embellishments with them... my favorite LO subjects are my kids.... a day is never complete without me kissing their armpits as they grimace and shriek with glee....

Scrappers

Janis says, KAYA!

I am not so lucky tonight (started the layout about lunchtime and finished it around 7pm - - in my office!!!), not so sure if I pictured it correctly - - my camera's battery is drained already.

So now on Letting go.... just perfect for me to test the waters. I've always wanted to doodle, but not sure if I really know how (good thing a friend of mine showed me her recently bought Kelly Panacci border clear stamps - - I based my doodles there!!!) plus I've always wanted to let go of my scraps (tsamba, goes with the title!!! parang shabby chic kunyari). I hope you'll enjoy my lay out as much as I enjoyed doodling.

Journaling:
Taken during Filstar's Ready, Set, Scrap in Glorietta last July 6, 2008. Tito Jamir was with us the whole time to lend his moral support - - too bad neither Tita Jaden nor me won any prize. That didn't spoil our moods though, Tito Jamir rescued the day by awarding us his masterpiece built from scraps of our layouts!

Materials Used:
DCWV cardstock, AAS papers, buttons, gel pens, blings, various cuttlebug alphabet foam diecuts, UBL rub ons

Techniques Used:
Doodling, tearing, distressing

About ME:
This is my first take on a Kaya Challenge. I started scrapbooking only February of this year, and became a member in pinoyscrapbookers only in May (I think). I've always wanted to join but somehow missed the first two challenges (first one too personal, second one i have no pictures to scrap!!!)
