Voting Time for Kaya 10

But first, Kayang-Kaya Kaya? would like to thank the following:

Diane, for effectively running a great challenge. I do believe the PS membership increased because of her and this challenge.

To Danielle Young, for letting us use such a wonderful kit. We hope we did justice to your digital creation.

To the scrappers who joined this challenge, many of you first-timers in the digital world, you all did yourself proud. To the more experienced digi-scrappers, thanks for showcasing your talent and creativity to us.

There are 37 digital layouts submitted in response to Diane's challenge. Unfortunately, we have to disqualify three because they were submitted after the deadline. You will still see their layouts below because they deserve to be shown and appreciated. However, they will not be included in the voting in deference to those who complied with all the requirements.

We are doing something differently this month. Instead of posting a summary showcasing all the layouts, we would like you to scroll down so you could read again the stories behind these creations and the scrappers that made them.

Voting is now open until February 29, 2008, 12:00 noon, Philippine time. Shortly, thereafter. Diane will announce the winner of the challenge.

Thank you very much.

However, as I began to scrapbook more and more, I realized there is a depth to this hobby that it totally changed and inspired my life. I began to seek out papers, embellishments and different styles and I journal to tell an interesting story...thus, leaving a legacy of tales...Scrapbooking is all about memories and leaving something for your family and friends to remember you by.

Pearl Co says, KAYA!

For the first 5 months I was able to make a 1 lay-out/week. But since the busy month of december, i only have 2 lay-outs made. So behind, i have recently decided to make our trips and events in digital scrapbooking; while few pics with journaling for the traditional scrapbooking. This challenge is timely since i need something to really push me to start making time to scrap and at the same time, the kit is really nice. Thanks Diane and Danielle.

Since I'm still in the process of learning Adobe CS2, I wanted to try something new for this 3rd lay-out of mine. I wanted to learn how to shape papers and pictures into something. With the help of digi scrapbook mags, I'm so happy that i learned this new technique. Here I used the animal pics shot from the same trip and used it on my title.

It was hot and humid.
We were thirsty. We were tired.
But I know you were having so much fun.
The bird and giraffe feeding quickly chased your bad mood away.
When you saw the mist sprayer, you immediately jumped and danced around.

Hello Beach

Joy says, KAYA!

I've been digiscrapping for quite a while now but I continue to push myself to try new things. Lately, I've been practicing blending and extraction and that's what I did here. It's a little out of the box for me - not my typical page but I think I like how it turned out.

This was your first time at the beach. And oh,how you LOVED it. From the moment you saw the big blue sea, your eyes widened & you let out a squeal! For all the "hassles" of going to the beach, Just seeing you enjoy makes it all worth it.

Thank you...your childlike enthusiasm is so infectious. With you, I see the world with a new sense of excitement.

About ME:
I’m Beth, a wife of 20 years to Raffy and a mom to a 9 year old hyperactive girl, Erika. I’ve been scrapping traditionally since the start of 2007. At the start of this year, I made self-commitments to produce at least 1 layout a week and to participate in all of the Kaya! challenges. So, it was not until the last week of February that I considered going into digital scrapbooking. And I’m glad that I did. Now, I have 3 scrapbooking related promises to myself….(1) produce at least 1 traditional layout a week, (2) participate in all of the Kaya! challenges, and (3) produce at least 1 digital layout a week.

I started scrapbooking in some form in college, although I didn't know about acid-free stuff. It wasn't until a couple of years ago when my friend made me a mini-book gift when I left my former office that I got interested because the acid-free papers were really cute. Right now I'm dabbling in digital scrapbooking since I spend so much time in front of the computer anyway--and most of our pictures are only in digital form. Still, that doesn't stop me from hoarding! I hope to become more active here and in the mailing list, all while doing wedding preps! I'm at and we are at

I almost thought hindi ko kaya *lol*, but finally I did it. Since I'm new to digi, I make it a point to learn a new technique for each digi LO I make. This time I tried paper tearing which is quite tricky and doesn't look good as I want it to be. But I did it anyway ;) Thanks to Diane for this challenge and to Danielle for the yummy digi kit.

Sarah Sweet

Lee says, KAYA!

I have dabbled a bit in digital scrapbooking but I was really intimidated by the talents that have posted before me. While I enjoyed looking at all the wonderful layouts, there were moments when I couldn't help but exclaim, "How did they do that?"

Thank you Diane for this challenging challenge (I'm at a lost for words) and for the impromptu tutorial on colorizing. Thanks Danielle for letting us use your wonderful kit. Indeed, how many layouts can one kit make? :-)

You always look at the world through rose-colored glasses. I know that soon you will outgrow your childlike innocence but I hope you continue to be sweet and embrace everything with bright-eyed wonder.

Materials Used:
Danielle Young's Springtime Kit, Fonts from Shabby Princess, Fiorex and Gigi.

Techniques Used:
I cut out Sarah's images from the photos and layered them on the pink paper. I then lowered the opacity of the photos to get the pink tinge. I colorized the ribbon (loving this new discovery!)

Indeed there's so many things you can do with digital scrapping that it's hard to say stop, this is it. I could have gone on and on if it wasn't time to feed my KiDS dinner. So here it is. No more changing. Hope you like it.

About ME:
I am an aspiring scrapbooker, writer, photographer. I am a mom to 3 amazing KiDS and wife to an extremely talented artist. My goal is to scrap at least one layout a week, and so far, I am behind. I get to scrap only during the weekends now, so this opportunity to scrap digitally and finish at least one LO is a God-send. I only have to bring my laptop with me. And my mom-in-law can't complain about the mess cause there was hardly any, except for one or two chocolate wrappers. LOL.

Me-anne says, KAYA!

I'm not too adept doing digital layout, just wanna join the fun and be with you guys who really did well on the job-grabe- cant help myself not to admire you guys and knowing some who are just merely new in the Challenge...galing indeed.

Here's my take and this all I got - hehehe!

Hello everyone! This is my first time to join a challenge here at Pinoy Scrapbookers. Joy say KAYA
Honestly, I had a hard time with this challenge not because I don't know how to make digital layout but the kit of Danielle Young is so beautiful that I can't think of better way to make to interpret it perfectly. I keep on loading the kit to my work area until I was able to do one. Got inspired with the picture of my CUTE nephew. Thanks Diane for giving this challenge. Quite challenging for my part. Hope you will like the way I use the kit.

Technique Used: Scan the picture taken from Picture company. Circularly cut the papers create a scallop effect. Layer the other papers from the kit. Recolor the flowers. Flip the ribbons to create a dimensional effect. Stretch the stitch to have a border. Put brads on the stitches.

About Me:
I'm Joyleen Dianne Co Lim married for almost 6 years to my bestfriend Erwin. I'm basically a craft girl and a gamer. I like to experiment and try new crafts like cross stitching, paper tole and now addicted to digital and traditional scrapbooking. I love to shop more than to scrap more. Quite a hoarder by nature. Once I got interested with anything I will surely try my best to get them all. Do visit my blog and see my other works.

As for digital LOs, I enjoy creating virtual greeting postcards for special occasions - Christmas, friends' birthdays, etc., which I religiously send every year. I just hope I can find more time to really indulge into the craft. I maintain a blog at Cookie is a term of endearment between me and my boyfriend.

Jenn says, KAYA!

After a few tries, I was able to download the kit. Lotsa thanks to Diane who made this challenge come to life, and to Danielle Young for providing the kit for us to use.
Our computer still cannot recognize the Photoshop CS2 disc so I feared Imight not be able to submit a layout for the challenge, but my brother, who also tries to do simple digital scrapbooking, said Microsoft Visio can read .png files and I can merge all elements as well as save it as .jpg, so thankful that I can join this month's challenge. This layout may be very simple (Visio can't do compilcated photo editing like the way Photoshop does), but through this I had more respect to the digital scrapbookers - it really wasn't that easy, but I do agree that digital scrapbooking can be so addicting. I love that I can hit the "redo" button everytime I misplaced an element - something a bit impossible to do with traditional. So here it is, my layout:

Journal Reads:
"After nine long years, I was able to set foot in Bolinao, Pangasinan again. I, together with my family primarily went there to visit ailing grandpa, but on this particular day, we went out to enjoy the magnificent views. It was a great way to relax and seeing God's creations was pure bliss. I cannot wait to be back here again. Macanlaoan Beach, 04 November 2007"

About ME:
A 27-year old lady who has been into crafts since high school but just officially dived into real scrapbooking September of 2006. Even though I think I am probably the poorest of all the scrapbookers here in the Philippines, I don't see financial constraints as hindrance for me to create layouts about my life’s memories. Actually, with the very few materials that I have, I am now doing my fourth album. Style wise, I love to do multiple pictures in my layouts, and as much as possible, I want to put as much memories from a life’s event into one layout. Aside from scrapbooking, I am also into cross-stitching, card making (though I only create cards for select people), and altering boxes to accommodate my knick-knacks and old letters from friends. One Fine Day

Tes says, KAYA!

This is my first time to join the KAYA challenge and I would like to say thank you to Danielle for the wonderful kit and most especially to Dianne for hosting this challenge. I had been hibernating from the (digi) scrapping forums ever since my dad passed away last year because I couldn't get myself to do it. I scrap mainly for my family and myself but I know being part of the forums and participating in challenges help motivate me to improve my layouts. I had already finished my LOs and have been procrastinating on sending it. It was just really difficult. The big challenge for me was to finally hit that SEND button and go for it. So here I am with two LOs, stepping out of my box and saying to myself finally, Kayang kaya kaya sumali ulit? (sabay pikit at lunok) KAYA!

About Me:
My name is Tes Pedrosa-Tirol ('teys' in blogs/scrap forums). I'm a homeschooling SAHM to my two kids, Kai (8), and Aemu (5) and have been married for almost 10 years. I started out as a paper scrapper in 1998 for my first child because I didn't have a lot of pictures of myself growing up and I wanted my child(ren) to be able to look back and remember not just their pictures but my thoughts and my sentiments for them as well. I've kept diaries for as long as I remember and scrapbooking was the perfect way to combine their pictures and my journaling. This was my visual diary for them. I have switched to digital because I find it more convenient. Maybe when I finally have my own creative space just for me (who knows when?) LOL, I'll be able to do both.

I haven't made many layouts because I've been spending time learning and reading stuff (actually tried to learn Photoshop because I really wanna scrap! LOL!). One of my goals for 2008, actually, is to scrap more. :) More about me may be found here and here.

About Me:
I am Katrina but my friends call me Khei. I am 22 years old, mother to 3 year old Benedict Andrei. I started scrapbooking 3 years ago but I only scrapbook full time last June. I love scrapbooking because it’s my de-stresser and it makes me remember good memories. I can challenge myself to be creative. Feel free to visit my blog:

You Are My Sunshine

Alby says, KAYA!

The moment I saw the digital kit, I already knew which pictures will go with it. I love the colors and the patterns! Thanks Diane for the challenge and for making it possible for us to work with a digital kit.

Trying to catch a bit of sunshine just before we say goodbye to summer.
(Honey Beach, Lobo, Batangas - May 2006)

Supplies Used:
Springtime Feelings Kit by Danielle Young; Adobe CS2; FG Ester and Rosewood Std fonts.

Techniques Used:
No complicated techniques here - I cropped and layered. I added drop shadows. The torn paper look - well, I erased and used a pen to add the white portion. I'm sure there's an easier way to do it but I have yet to learn.

About Me:
Hi I'm Alby! I'm married to my very supportive hubby, Ariel, who is also my number one fan in scrapping. Been scrapping since 2005 but only got to know about acid-free scrapping since last year. I love scrapping because it helps me showcase my photos creatively. It is my stress buster and my "me time". Lately, I've tried a bit of painting on some of my layouts and I enjoy it a lot. I'll try to incorporate a bit of painting in my future layouts. You may see some of my work at my blog.
