A New Day Has Come

Susie says, KAYA!

It's our tradition to take a photo of our anniversaries. This was taken on our 8th and 9th year (we're on our 11th and i'm only doing this LO now). The 8th year was memorable because I was 2 months pregnant after a long battle with infertility. Celine Dion is my favorite, not really as a singer but because we did IVF at the same time. She succeeded, I failed. A New Day Has Come was her song when she had a son. The lyrics show exactly how I felt when I had a baby. The lyrics say it all.

Journaling:
I was waiting for so long
For a miracle to come
Everyone told me to be strong
Hold on and don't shed a tear

Through the darkness and good times
I knew I'd make it through
And the world thought I had it all
But I was waiting for a miracle

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new, new sun
A new day has...come
Materials Used:
Daisy Ds paper, vellum, rub-ons, petals, beads, chipboard

Technique:
Layering, tearing, stiching, chalking the petals, matting

About ME:
I'm Susie, married for 11 years with 2 yrs old son, giving birth next month so i have to rush my LO before a new baby comes. Living in Hong Kong.

Car Bonanza

Susie says, KAYA!

I won a car in a raffle draw few years ago. I have sold it so got a miniature version of it. It's displayed in our living room to remind me of this blessing and how it brings joy to my life.

Journaling:
How do you feel when somebody calls you that you won a car? Is it a dream, is it a fantasy? I pinched myself three times to make sure it is a reality. That was April 2000. Yes, it's been a long while ago. The car has been gone and all that remains is a memory, and a miniature model of Volkwagen golf car, to this day reminds me of the sweet blessing years ago.

Materials used:
DCWV papers, stickers, tags, chalk, ribbon, foam tape, MM pen.

Technique:
Layering, matting, inking, chalking, tearing

Travels

Susie says, KAYA!

This challenge is easy for me as i always do double-pagers. If I join KAYA or other contests then that's the only time I do one page. But i still make sure the next page has the same paper or color. I like to put lots of photos so a double-pager is ideal for me.

Negative space is not my style as i want to put more pictures as much as possible. Not so happy with the outcome, maybe I will put more photos later. :-) Though I found it easier and faster to finish.

Potty Time

Susie says KAYA!

Here's my take on this month's challenge. I want to let go of my boy's nappy at 18 months, but still no luck yet. He thinks his potty trainer seat is his new chair, a garbage can, or a storage for his toys.

Journalling:
Wow! Mama got me this toy @ 18 months,oh, it's a new chair! How to sit here? first, put my feet into the tiny hole, then find a comfortable spot to sit. Mama removes my nappy and gets upset if i pee anywhere in the house. I like to sit here in this position, cool chair! Or i hide my toy cars inside...........Jerome @ 21 months.

Leave childless couples alone

Susie says, KAYA!

Happy Anniversary Kaya!

Here's my take on the challenge. All my friends and relatives know that I wanted to get pregnant for 8 years that I am married, what they didn't know was how i felt and did all these years, I cannot voice it out so I wrote it down on my blog 2 years ago. This challenge is "easy" as I copied my past blog entry. If anyone is going through this challenge, have faith, there is hope.

Symbol: I chose flowers as I know there is hope every time I see a flower blooms.

Journaling reads:
I was married for eight blissful years, I was not giving up hope that one day God will grant me the blessing to have a child. It was a struggle month after month, year after year, I was not just facing the challenges of medical problem, but also have to face real challenges socially, emotionally and psychologically. I had to constantly put up with remarks like,"Still no baby? You are not young anymore." Most often people ask WHY I am not pregnant yet, at the back of my mind, I want to shout, "I don't know, the doctor doesn't know it too." I have heard numerous comments, some of it were below the belt. A religious Aunt asked me if I still know how to pray, oh well, she thinks that not having a baby is God's punishment, and thought that if you pray for something, God is gullible to grant your prayer in a snap. I had never prayed in my life like when I was in TTC (trying to conceive) stage. And the mother of all insensitive questions, "Are you doing it correctly?" It is exasperated answering people that we were working on it.

Childbearing is a personal matter. If you are already a parent, remember that childless couples are happiest when left alone. We do not need you to advise us on childbearing techniques, or know when you intend to have your next baby when we are still struggling for a hit. I DO NOT WANT YOUR SYMPATHY, I NEED YOU TO BE SENSITIVE. Maybe my husband and I had a mission to fulfill to each other, that is why God bless us to have our own time spent together for a longer time, mind you, not having a baby yet after marriage is something, we spend quality time together, travel anytime, anywhere, we can go out at the spur of the moment. I don't envy those who had baby after their marriage.

No family members or friends know about what I have been through, the difficulty we dealt with infertility and childlessness. You can call me desperate who would give anything and everything to have a baby. I had tried for many years but to no avail, I had exhausted the full spectrum of medical science...IUIs, IVFs (note the plurals). IVF is only for the patient and the brave. Patient because the process takes months, and brave not so much because of all the injections you have to undergo, but because the results are not always positive. Your butt and tummy receive enough shots to fill up a connect-the-dots page, not to mention that I always poke at the wrong vein so I ended up with lots of bruises in my tummy. You have to accept and be prepared for the outcome. I've never cried in my life like I did when my treatments failed. IVF drains both your energy and your pocket. We spent a fortune on this. This is the part of my life that has taught me a lot of lessons, how to stand up and try again after each failure. I was holding out for a miracle.

They say if your problem is not having a child, then you are doing well with your life. If I count our blessings, it is overflowing! It is demeaning to complain to God on what I have accomplished, I have a responsible and loving husband, living a comfortable life, nice home, having lived in different countries, money to spend on whatever we need, good health, friends in almost every corner of the world. We cannot ask for more. Having a baby is a bonus for us. I absolutely have no regrets if this was my fate and destiny. I will choose the same path if given the chance, I sound like I am a phony, but that's the truth. If not for TTC, I will not be the same person as I am now - stronger, prayerful, appreciates life to the fullest, and thankful for all the small and big blessings. I had done my best and i leave the rest in God's hands. On the last month that I was ready to give up hope, I became pregnant naturally, all goes well with my pregnany and birth, we now have a happy, healthy, God-fearing baby. People now ask me when will I have baby #2.......oh well.......c'est la vie.

To Jerome, 18 months, to be read when your wife is pregnant

Susie says, KAYA!

Journaling:
Of course, i am a breastfed baby, from birth til 13 months.

Hidden letter:
Dear Jerome,

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am happy that you will be a father soon. It is my prayer that you won't have to go thru the TTC (trying to conceive) battle that daddy and I had.

When i became pregnant, i went into "research overdrive," reading everything i could about pregnancy and newborn. That was how determined that i would breastfeed (BF) you. I started attending La Leche League (LLL) meetings from five months pregnant til i gave birth, to give me info and encouragement. BF though a natural process does not always come naturally. I know it is best for both of us and is the ideal way to initiate good parent-child relationship.

My ONLY birth plan is to BF you as soon as possible after i delivered. I was groggy with anaesthesia waiting in the room with daddy, he has to follow up the nurse several times to bring you to us. Some hospitals are not supportive of this. Finally, they brought you in after 40 minutes and we tried BF. We both did not know how to do it, it was an uphill struggle, but after sometime, we did it successfully. I did not allow you to feed formula, so nurse had to bring you to me every 2-3 hours, tiring for me but i was determined. I know breastmilk is the best. Sometimes i want to give up as you cried loudly for hunger, esp on our first night at home. It was good LLL leaders were there to hlep us, they taught us how to latch correctly, i took Fenugreek to increase my milk supply, from then on, all was well.

This went on until you were 13 months, you were biting me and ready to wean. I truly missed the bonding we had, the touching, cuddling and skin to skin contact. The closeness that BF brought between you and me is priceless.

Please make sure your wife BF your baby. I don't need to explain the benefits of it, you should know as you are a healthy man.

I am proud to be a successful breastfeeding mother. This is the best gift i have given you.

Love,
Mama (April 7, 2008)

P.S. Promised me that you will be a good father like your daddy.
