KAYA 19 - CHALLENGE #3

LADIES IN DISTRESS

One of my favorite technique for my page is DISTRESSING. It can add texture and give the page an "aged" look. There are a few ways to distress. Some of them are:

1.using distress inks (as well as tea and coffee)
2. paper tearing (my favorite) - adds texture to the page
3. crumpling (with or without inking)

Bella

Marjorie says, KAYA!
(better late than never)

This should have been posted when i issued challenge #2. But something came up and i couldn't, for the life of me, scrap a page for this. I finished this layout Tuesday but wasn't able to post it right away. My younger daughter's name is ISABELLA. Her nickname was supposed to be Bella but her Ate would pronounce it as BEA. And it remained that way. But after reading Twilight, i now intend to call her BELLA.

Materials Used:
basic grey pp, thickers, american crafts journaling sticker, the paper studio buttons, fancy pants chipboards, copic marker, tape measure ribbon (misc), prima.

About ME:
My name is Marjorie, my friends call me Marj. I've been scrapping since May of last year. I have two daughters and they give me tons of photos to scrap. I have to admit, i am behind with my scrapping all of them.

Kaya 19 - CHALLENGE #1

Take A Bow!

I love bows on pages. But i couldn't make a good one even if my life depends on it. So, i asked Oliver to teach me how to make a good one. After a few tries, i succeeded. You just have to be patient adjusting into that "perfect bow".

Challenge 1: Use a bow in your layout. The ribbon that you will use must be more than 1.5 centimeters wide to qualify as a big bow.

Assignment due on November 9, 2009 at 11:59 pm (manila time)

If

Vogue

Marj says, KAYA!

wow,i had a hard time finding an inspiration...one time, i was tidying up my daughters' room, i spotted this red hat i bought from hoblob(hobbylobby), and got inspired! hehe..so here it is..i had a hard time using that satin fabric..i had to iron it and make sure that it was somewhat straight...then that shade of red was really hard to find..i was done with 2 days ago but wasn't satisfied with the color of the cs...so i had to make an extra trip to archiver's (*wink*) to find the right color..i was successful so i had to redo the layout again..talk about being OC right..(attention Ms. Nita Ang)...thanks for looking!!!

These Eyes

Marj says, KAYA!

After almost a month of being stranded in the island, swimming (oooops, forgot I can’t swim) and talking to myself, I suddenly realized I must be rescued..I gathered the remnants of my scrap stuff then got to work…

Materials:
Bazzill CS and glue

Process:
Cut equal sizes of cream CS then thin strips of pink CS were glued on each white CS. Made two rows leaving a bit of brown CS showing. Cut a wide strip of lighter pink CS and two half moon (this was done by drawing a line using a CS then after a few tries, was able to make a half moon which was traced to make two pieces) to give the impression of a circle in the middle. Outlined with short strips of green CS. I drew a big and small flower then again traced to make the other flowers. A thin strip of pink CS was glued on each petals of the brown ones. Smaller green flowers are then glued on to give dimension then doodled on.

(This was inspired by a layout which I forgot the name of the artis. I tried looking for the lo again but couldn’t.. my bad!)

Enjoy Life

Marj says, KAYA!

I found this picture that was taken about 10 years ago and when I looked at myself, I was amazed how 10 years had passed in a blur. So many things I would rather forget, but a lot more memories will never be forgotten. I was thinking of not submitting any LO for this month’s challenge because I felt I was not into layering. But after looking at this picture and my papers, I felt the inspiration and almost automatically cut and layered the papers.

Journaling:
Growing old is nothing more than mind over matter. If you don’t mind, then it doesn’t matter.

Technique:
I did not do a lot of techniques here. I just let the layers make the page.

Materials: Foof-a-la PPS (5 pp), the mat around the photo is also a PP (The Paper Studio), MM mini brads, Primas, bling, Zots, We R Memory Keepers Precious Metals (silver), alpha brads (Paper Studio), vellum sayings (DCWV expressions)

What Took You So Long?

Marj says, KAYA!

This is my first entry to a challenge. I did not plan on joining but when I was about to do an LO for my older daughter's birth, I remember Donna told me to join and not be scared. I have one or two ephemera I can use for the LO so I did.

What took you so long is an expression of how I almost gave up on having a child. It took seven painful long years of thinking I would never feel a child's embrace. And just like that, she came. Every time I look at her, of how loving and vibrant she is, I think of all those years without her and I realize I could never be without her again. I did not expect to be blessed like this. I have a loving husband and another baby girl who is 4 months old.

Inside mini-folder

Journaling Reads:
Francine, I waited for you so long that I almost gave up. You never fail to amaze me since that first time I held you in my arms. A smile from you makes everything your papa and I went through very much worth it.

Materials/Supplies Used:
Bohemia paper(My Mind‘s eye), CS(DCWV), Cricut paper (reds and blacks pad), Cricut machine, Jasmine font cartridge, round metal letters (Making Memories), eyelets (The Paper Studio), mini brads (The Paper Studio), mounting squares, Autumn Leaves clear stamps (Rhonna Farrer), Primas, Swarovski crystals for the flower centers (local hobby store), chipboard (raw), fluid chalk (Colorbox-stack of 6), Lace(LS), purple embroidery floss (DMC)

Ephemera:
- a piece Francine's receiving blanket
- ribbon from her shirt
- hospital bracelet
- ultrasound pics
- tag from going home outfit

Techniques/Process:
Tags are made from raw chipboard then was cut to desired size and shape, then painted with acrylic, sanded then inked. The heart-shaped tag was covered with paper then sanded and inked.

Mini- album holding the "us" pics are made with 2 pieces chipboard then attached with a small piece scored in the middle then painted with black acylic then glued to act as the binder. The top was covered with lace attached with small brads.

The title was made with Cricut using the blackout and regular feature
The four sides of the matted picture were stitched to give it dimension
The fabric pouch was sewn from a piece of the receiving blanket (I think it's better to see it in a LO than being hidden in a closet) which was soaked in coffee to stain it light brown. It holds one of the tags I made with the details of the birth (time, birthweight, height, place, etc.) written in white pen, the hospital bracelet and the tag of the outfit she wore when she went home.
