My Bead Treasure

Marian says KAYA!

In a previous life I used to bead everyday. I was obsessed with beads and hoarded them much like I hoard scrapbook materials now. When I stopped making beads I gave away a lot of the unstrung beads and findings just leaving some that I really like and hope to put together one day.

Journaling:
A few years back I enjoyed making bead jewelry. It was the time when semi-precious stones and swarovski crystals were still not hot items for accessories. I went out of my way to learn the craft through magazines and taking lessons from the beading lady, Portia Leuterio.

I enjoyed making different types of jewelry stringing them with nylon string, twisting and weaving them with wire, knotting them with twine and even crocheting them with fine wire. I loved the look of different types of beads, the colors and designs and I loved making something beautiful with them. Whenever I would wear my creations, people would ask me where I got it and would always be surprised when I said I made it. Many of my relatives and freinds suggested I should sel and make it a business. I never got to do it as I felt it would not be fun and relaxing if it were a business. I did enjoy teaching some friends, relatives and my helpers the basics. I also made many pieces for gifts.

Sadly my eyes deteriorated and I found it difficult to bead so I decided to give up my hobby. I also stopped wearing my creations when bead jewelry became so common I found it passe.

These treasures have been gathering dust in the basement, completely ignored for several years. I hope to put them in shadow boxes for display soon.

Materials:
Basic Grey Perhaps line pattern papers, Maya Road Chipboard Swirls, Prima flowers, Doodlebug bling,Prima bling, Divisoria bling, Art Institute glitter, Scenic Route sticker letters, Chatterbox lace, a bead brooch, distress ink
