I am learning many things here at the Kaya challenge, so monthly, I participate to improve and share my LOs. As you all know, my Kaya 4 is "1st B-day party". This time it's Pinata time, a continuation of my Kaya 4. I choose this LO for I am very happy to see the reactions of my guests as they tried to catch those goodies from inside the pinata.


Journaling:
Grace Kelly 1st B-day ends with Pinata Time. So many goodies inside the pinata, kids with their parents try to catch as many as they can, everyone still want some more, and it's a lot of fun celebrating parting with them.

Seeing LOs with layered patterned papers seems so easy but when you do it on your project, it becomes a challenge. You've got to have color coordinated papers.... like clothes. But when you get the hang of it, you'd realize that it's fun also... like dressing up!

It was a fun day to celebrate your birthday at Market! Market! Not because it was new to the kids but because we have bonded well. Happy birthday, Manong! Thank you for being a good and supportive brother and being a good Uncle. We love you!

Im Mich Sonza, married to a very supportive husband - Gilbert; with 2 kids Dominique (4) and Benedict (2). Been scrapping since I was little but just started achival scrapbooking last 2006. Since then I have been addicted to this craft because at least now, I share it with people with the same passion that I have. I have committed myself to restore and document family events. I have disciplined myself to only scrap only when there is a dead time on my hands. Family time is still my priority. So far, everything is just so great!

A Time to Relax

Layering is one of my favorites when doing digital layouts. When I saw this challenge, I got excited to do it as soon as I can. I finished this LO in a flash less than an hour to be exact. Layering 10 digital papers is easier compared to the traditional one. No mess and the sheet of papers are cut uniformly.


Journaling:
Finally... I was able to convinced Erwin to have a weekend break, we grabbed the long weekend to drove all the way ro Catalagan, Batangas to relax ourselves. The climate was colder as compare to the hot and sunny weather of Manila. We can breathe normally with the fresh air that we can feel. The place was so cozy, relaxing enough to relief stress and tensions. We both agreed to left our own GADGETS to have quality time for each other. Thank you Erwin for leaving his TOYS for me. At Batangas, we were able to relax and feel the comfort of one another. My heart was filled with joy and laughters to the stories and moments we shared that will last a lifetime.

About Me:
I'm Joyleen Dianne Co Lim, 30 years old, a wife to a VERY supportive hubby, Erwin. I can still recall, when my family goes on vacation, I was the one who will put all the pictures in our magnetic photo album. Use cut outs magazines, and brochures and wrappers to decorate very single page. The term Acid free wasn't that known that time. Until 2002, then I got married, I started scrapbooking. My first project was my wedding album. My sister and I helped one other to finish the entire album then I stopped due to low supply. Until one day, someone invited me to join PINOY SCRAPBOOKERS and SCRAPBOOK EXCHANGE, BOOM!!!! I'm so HAPPY to know that FINALLY I can buy some scrap stuffs and start working again. A few days before the challenge was posted, I just finished an LO that fits the bill, layering. I thought of posting it but with all my backlogs I decided to create a new LO and as Kaya says, creating an LO is a reward on its own. So here's my attempt. Just a little tribute to my barkada here in Singapore, who have been with me through laughters and trials living away from home.

About ME:
Hi! I'm Marix, single and currently working as a Systems Analyst in Singapore. I've been scrapbooking since highschool but never knew such a term ever existed. Back then I've been using magazines to cut out titles and images and used the magnetic albums which sadly are all not acid free. I only discovered the term scrapbooking and acid free in 2004 and have been doing it since then. It was on and off until I became addicted to it last year. I scraplift, use sketches and find inspiration through advertisements. I'm a traditional scrapper and haven't tried digital yet. I've been working on collages and wanted a way to make it more three-dimensional. Inspired by a diorama in my mom's house, I wanted to alter a box and make a collage in it, sort of like the simple shoebox "TVs" we used to do in school.

I had to beg the KAYA! core team to let me do an altered project for this challenge. Hehe.

Materials used:
8 x 8 Papemelroti recycled paper box, 1972 newspaper page, white acrylic paint, All About Scrapbooking blue handmade paper, various patterned papers, stamps, ink, foil, copper wire, metal wire, beads.

Techniques used:
Altered the box by decoupaging it with old newspaper. Then, painted with watered down white acrylic paint. Pasted blue handmade paper and handcut stars from foil. Then added the layers of patterned paper. Stamped moon face on four different colors of a single patterned paper and layered with foam tape. Stamped lines to look like electricity lines. Stamped swallow, fish, and dog on patterned paper and added with foam tape. Played with metal wire, copper wire and beads and added with foam tape covered by the strip of patterned paper.

New Life, New Love

This photo was taken on the first day of the first month of 2001. Incidentally, Ethan was one day old at the time! His Dad held him in the car on our way home from the hospital, we fondly called him Neo as it means "new". I covered my title and journalling with vellum to create a different effect...I used foam adhesives under the brads to lift up and accentuate the "picket fence". I enjoyed making this layout!

About ME:
Hi I am Roxannee, 30 a Mom of 2 gorgeous boys Ethan (6) and Ashton (7 months) and wife to a wonderful guy named Ronald (oh I am sooooo in love)... I had been planning on scrapbooking since my first born was still a bub but couldn't get the hang of it...so when I had baby number 2, as the photos keep on piling up and clogging my hard drive, I decided to really get on with the cropping! I realized that scrapping
is not just preserving and creating memories but could be therapy too, I feel relaxed and comforted by it at the end of a hectic day. I am also crazy about cross stich, cake decorating, knitting, beading, card making and photography. Could you imagine the craft stuff I have
in the cupboard? It drives my hubby nuts!

About ME:
Married, with 2 kids - DD 7 and DS 4, part-time lecturer on restaurant operations. I have been scrapping on and off since 1984 using non-archival safe products (because I thought the acid-free stuff around that time looked cheesy, haha). Pumpkin Seed

i made this layout because as i was watching my eldest son peeling off the shell of the pumpkin seed, the scene became interesting for me. His expression made me smile and to take a shot without him looking at me made the whole ambience even more exciting. So after having a hard time doing the shell-peeling, he finally got to eat the pumpkin seed in the end.

KAYA Five!

This month, we venture into the technique called LAYERING. Layering is defined as placing several papers on top of one another to create a stunning layout of colors and mixtures. In our Kaya 5 challenge, there is only one rule: use a minimum of 6 pieces pattern papers which include your base. You can layer it to your own desire. Your embellishments are unlimited. You can also use strips if you prefer but with a maximum of 2 (any size would do).

Just a simple layout to commemorate the event of all events (so far) – watching the concert of my most favorite band of all time: Hanson.

Journaling Reads:

“I have been a Hanson fan since summer of 1997. Like any fan, I, too, have collected different Hanson memorabilia and merchandise, to the point that most of my college classmates have teased me being *overly obsessed.* Can they blame me? Not only do these brothers possess good looks, they also have great talent. Of course, I have also dreamt of
seeing them performing live here in my own country. That dream came true in 2004, when finally, the brothers went here in the Philippines as part of their Underneath World Tour. I was overjoyed when I heard the news, and although I bought my tickets late, I managed to get a center seat. I may be in the tenth row from the stage, but I felt I was sitting on the best seat in the house. Funny though, I was the only one wearing an office uniform in the concert. =) Seeing them personally and hearing them perform live was one of the best things that could happen to me as a fan. It gave me that overwhelming feeling that will forever remain in my memory. Being on the same building with them, sharing the same oxygen, and singing along with them completed me as a fan. It was that day that my being Hansonite has became ...”

About Me:

A 27-year old lady who has been into crafts since high school but just officially dived into real scrapbooking September of 2006. Even though I think I am probably the poorest of all the scrapbookers here in the Philippines, I don't see financial constraints as hindrance for me to create layouts about my life’s memories. I planned to really incorporate Gaby's school knick-knacks/awards (if any) in her school albums, either by taking photos of them or simply slipping them in the lay-out. The first one (which I already scrapped) was a certificate of her participation in a summer program (her first to attend a school). It was photographed with her holding it. The second was her award during the moving up day from Nursery to Kinder. I was tickled pink to know what her special award was because it was an affirmation on how she is becoming as a person. Can't help but use it in our Kaya Challenge this month.

About ME:
I'm Ems Fronda, working wife to a wonderful hubby, Oliver & Mommy to a beautiful girl, Gaby and another one on the way (after almost 7 years). Started scrapbooking when I was in High School using magazine cut-outs, ordinary stickers & other knick-knacks. Got hooked on "real" traditional scrapbooking in 2003 with the push and shove of my dear friend, Joanne Yap (thanks dear). Since then, the bug has never left me. I would say my style is clean and mean but would love to develop from there. I envy those scrapbookers who can just dump a lot of patterned papers and embellishments in a single LO and still look clean and not busy. Since I'm a working Mom, I'm ecstatic just to finish 1 or 2 LO/s a month. My subject is mostly my daughter Gaby so I'm glad that she'll have a sibling soon (another backlog on the way too).
