Fields of Gold

Candy says, KAYA!

I loved this song from the moment I heard it sung by Sting. It as written by Sting for his wife. For me, it evokes a long life of love and companionship. It's something I'm looking forward to as we mature.

Journaling:
Growing old together, seeing time pass with joined hands in our fields of gold, in a song that withstands

FIELDS OF GOLD by Sting
...Will you stay with me, will you be my love,
Among the fields of barley.
Will forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in fields of gold.
...Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley.
See the children run as the sun goes down
Among the fields of gold....

Materials Used:
Bazzill cs, Thickers Shoebox alpha, Carolina's lace and ribbon, Kotex silver thread, Elit tracing paper, miscellaneous glass beads (clear and amber), StazOn black & olive, VersaMark Watermark, PA embossing powder in gold and in black, Tsukineko Walnut Ink. Stamp used: Stamper's Anonymous Tim Holtz Collection Nature's Discovery 049.

Process/Techniques:
I used a plain yellow ochre cs and stamped all over, first with StazOn black and olive green, then embossed same stamp in black and in gold. Distressing was made by rubbing walnut ink and by rolling and tearing the sides. Also, by rubbing more walnut ink where the stamping was made, I created an illusion of more plants in the background. To hold the photo and the song in tracing paper, I cross-stitched silver thread at strategic places around them. I also sewed clear and amber glass beads together with miscellaneous dried grain stalks for added interest. Photo was also altered in Lightroom to age its look.

About ME:
I love making LOs of my son and of my ancestors. I am very comfortable with the vintage look but love experimenting with bright colors, esp. earth and nature colors, whenever possible. Scrapbooking is a passion and an expression of my soul and of my life. You can check out my work at http://eyecandyscrap.blogspot.com.

With You I'm Born Again

Joy says, Kaya

Finally, after being so busy with our baby Enzo, I was able to join and create this layout for this month's challenge. I choose this song because it remember us the day Erwin and I got married. 6 years of being a couple and now FAMILY.

Journaling:

Come bring me your softness
Comfort me through all this madness
Woman, don't you know, with you I'm born again

Come give me your sweetness
Now there's you, there is no weakness
Lying safe within your arms, I'm born again

I was half, not whole
In step with none
Reaching through this world
In need of one

Come show me your kindness
In your arms I know I'll find this
Woman, don't you know, with you I'm born again
Lying safe with you I'm born again

Come bring me your softness
Comfort me through all this madness
Woman, don't you know, with you I'm born again

Come give me your sweetness
Now there's you, there is no weakness
Lying safe within your arms, I'm born again

She

Jeanie says KAYA!
This is a layout I did for a really good friend at work. I've been scrapping her wedding photos and a lot of people have been mistaking her for me. I recalled the song from the movie Notting Hill when I was looking for a song to use as a journaling. I loved the song that I am now thinking of using it during my wedding this December. I initially had a difficult time doing the sewing because the holes were not perfect and evenly spaced. Then I decided to use the threading water punch and sew through the holes. :)

Journaling:

may be the song that summer sings
may be the chill that autumn brings
may be a hundred different things
within the measure of a day

"Slipping Through my Fingers"

Sheryl says, KAYA!

I guess I'll never get over this particular sentiment. With Lilaa's enrollment in June, I can't help but anticipate the emotions associated with it. I know that in time I do have to let go, but don't you think kids are really growing up so fast? :-( I can perfectly relate with Meryl Streep's character as Donna in the Mamma Mia musicale, when she saw her daughter's BFFs again and she had to blurt out: "Stop growing!"

Journaling:
(excerpt from the song)
"Schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile
I watch her go with a surge of that well-known sadness
And I have to sit down for a while

Chorus:

Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see whats in her mind
Each time I think Im close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time

U R My Sonshine

Faith says, KAYA!

This is my first time to join the “Kaya” challenge. I have been dropping by this blog for some time now for a much needed inspiration but I never found the courage to join the monthly challenges. When I read this month’s challenge, I decided to give it a try.

Here is my take. This LO is inspired by the song “You Are My Sunshine”. I just played with the title a little bit and changed it to “U R My Sonshine”. There is one verse in the song that really conveys how I feel about my one and only son. I’m sure most of you are familiar with this song.

Journaling:
-You brighten my day with just a smile.
- You fill my heart with love and joy.
- You mean the world to me.
- You are my everything.
I wouldn’t ask for anything more coz’ I have you, my perfect little “SONSHINE”!

When I see the world through your young eyes, everything becomes new again.
The moon is brighter, the sun warmer, and the stars even more mysterious.
Yet nothing is as glorious as YOU. ~~~ Maya Angelou ~~~

This is the song lyric that I incorporated in my LO:

You are my sunshine, My only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear, How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.

Materials Used:

One Sweet Day

Jenn says KAYA!

I finished this layout February 12, but as I was supposed to upload it here, I realized that I overlooked one key rule in this month's challenge. The layout was supposed to be about love, and unfortunately, my layout wasn't about it. This layout is definitely disqualified, but I will still share it - just to say I am back to scrapbooking. =)

One Sweet Day

One Sweet Day (details) One Sweet Day (details)

Journaling:
"...although the sun will never shine the same, I'll always look for a brighter day..."

I could say that I handled my dad's death fine, but after a few months, I could also say that I had a hard time coping with the loss after reality has sunk on me. So on this day, along with the sun setting, I am letting go of all the negative feelings brought about by dad's death. Time to move forward and embrace the sweet fact that life is indeed beautiful.

Materials Used:
The last time I created a scrapbook layout was June of 2008, so I already forgot the labels of the materials. Sorry.

I used the song "One Sweet Day" by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men. I thought I could still do a layout before the deadline, but I attended the Singles for Christ International Conference in Cebu City then made a side trip to Tanjay and Dumaguete cities in Negros Oriental, I was out from Feb 18 until yesterday. I am actually going to hit the road again later tonight to attend the Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City, then to La Union for my dad's death anniversary. Promise to make up next challenge.

To Craft Fairy, thanks for the challenge. I may not be able to do it correctly, but your challenge really made me go back to scrapbooking.

About Me:
A person with multiple personalities who's very much into blogging, traveling, photography, and eating. Trying to come back into scrapbooking and is hoping to create more layouts based on the pictures she took. Check her blogs at: Jenn Was Here and An Autobiography in the Works.

A New Day Has Come

Susie says, KAYA!

It's our tradition to take a photo of our anniversaries. This was taken on our 8th and 9th year (we're on our 11th and i'm only doing this LO now). The 8th year was memorable because I was 2 months pregnant after a long battle with infertility. Celine Dion is my favorite, not really as a singer but because we did IVF at the same time. She succeeded, I failed. A New Day Has Come was her song when she had a son. The lyrics show exactly how I felt when I had a baby. The lyrics say it all.

Journaling:
I was waiting for so long
For a miracle to come
Everyone told me to be strong
Hold on and don't shed a tear

Through the darkness and good times
I knew I'd make it through
And the world thought I had it all
But I was waiting for a miracle

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new, new sun
A new day has...come

Layering, tearing, stiching, chalking the petals, matting

Little Girl

Janis says, KAYA!

I forgot to submit this one (had posted this in my blog last week). I chose the song "My Little Girl" by Tim Mcgraw. Scrapped the word "My" though, the cutie is my niece Jade from my Kuya. Why I chose this song? Fell in love with the lyrics so I decided to make them my journaling. Thanks Marissa for this challenge.

Alone At Last

Mei Ann says, KAYA!

One of the things that my hubby and I have in common is our love for the sea. We used to dive in Anilao every weekend before migrating here in the Great White North.

On top of our wish list is to have a wooden shack by the sea where I can scrap the whole day and he can just sit on the sand listening to the sound of the waves. Our dream is still far from happening but every time we have a chance, and weather permitting, we love going to our seaside hideaway....to be far from the hustle and bustle of the city life and to be "Alone At Last"!

Our deep love for the sea is captured by Neil Sedaka's song "Alone at Last."

Journaling:
Alone at last in a hideaway
Far away from all the worries in the world
We share each other while the sun's going down
Not another soul around.

Wishin' & Hopin'

Mel says, KAYA!

Wishin’ and Hopin’ was originally by Dusty Springfield and covered by Ani DiFranco in My Best Friend’s Wedding soundtrack. Here are the lyrics for this fun song. Enjoy!

Wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin’
Planning and dreamin’ each night of his charms.
That won’t get you into his arms

So if you’re looking for love you can share
All you gotta to is hold him and kiss him and love him
And show him that you care.

Show him that you care just for him.
Do the things that he likes to do.
Wear your hair just for him cause
You won’t get him thinkin’ and prayin'
Wishin’ and hopin’.

’Cause wishin’ and hopin’ and thinkin’ and prayin’
Plannin' and dreamin’ his kisses will start.
That won’t get you into his heart!

So if you’re thinking how great true love is
All you gotta to is hold him and kiss him and squeeze him and love him.
Yeah just do it!
And after you do, you will be his.

You gotta show him that you care just for him.
Do the things that he likes to do.
Wear your hair just for him cause’
You won’t get him thinkin’ and a prayin’
Wishin’ and a hopin’.

Cause wishin’ and hopin’ and thinkin’ and prayin’
Plannin' and dreamin’ his kisses will start.
That won’t get you into his heart!

So if you’re thinking how great true love is!
All you gotta to is hold him’ and kiss him’ and squeeze him’ and love him.
Yeah just do it!
And after you do’ you will be his.

You will be his.

You will be his!

Artistic release, stress reliever, self-expression, an outlet for my current obsession which is everything Twilight and of course my son.

I Will Never Go

Me-anne says, KAYA!

Oh my, I have been far and cannot be reached lately. I can't even get my mojo to scrap back. A lot of things happened and I'm trying to keep up with a lot of these changes. First my new career and workplace environment and then my entirely new self. Maybe this is a good start to touch my stuff again and bring myself to this best stress-reliever called scrapbooking.

I made this simple layout for my Mother-in-Law. Incidentally, yesterday was my Father-in-Law's Death Anniversary and I couldn't think of a best gift for her but this one. Hope she'll find this one best though I really don't know their theme song, but the song did well for both of them...hoping again it will.

So here's my take on this challenge. I'll Never Go by Erik Santos.

Journaling:
You always ask me
Those words i say
And telling me what it means to me

And you will see
The love i give
For you still hold the key

Every single day
You always act this way
For how many times i told you
I love you for this is all i know

I'll never go far away from you
Even the sky will tell you
That i need you so
For this is all i know
I'll never go far away from you

Come to me and hold me
And you will see
The love i give
For you still hold the key

Even the sky will tell you
That i need you so
For this is all i know
I'll never go far away from you

Come to me and hold me
And you will see
The love I gaved for you still hold the key

I Will Be Here

Alby says, KAYA!

When I saw this month’s challenge, I immediately thought of “I Will Be Here” by Steven Curtis Chapman. I first heard the song when I was in college more than a decade ago. I fell in love with it, and with Steven Curtis Chapman (I fantasized marrying the guy!). Several years later, the song meant more to me than it did when I first heard it, specially after Ariel sang it (attempted to, actually, since he wasn’t able to finish when his voice cracked with emotion) during our wedding reception. The song sums up our wedding vows that we made not just to each other but also to the God of love who brought us together. The song was part of the album “Live Adventure” released in 1993 that won Steven Curtis Chapman his second Grammy award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. It was recently revived in a very soulful rendition by Gary Valenciano, but for me, nothing beats the original.

Listen to it here. When you clck the link, it will take you to the Live Adventure album. Just click on the forward button of the player on the right side of the page until you reach song number 12 to play I Will Be Here.

Journaling:
Tomorrow morning if you wake up
And the sun does not appear
I will be here
If in the dark, we lose sight of love
Hold my hand, and have no fear
'Cause I will be here

I will be here
When you feel like being quiet
When you need to speak your mind
I will listen
And I will be here
When the laughter turns to cryin'
Through the winning, losing and trying
We'll be together
I will be here

Tomorrow morning, if you wake up
And the future is unclear
I will be here
Just as sure as seasons were made for change
Our lifetimes were made for these years
So I will be here

I will be here
And you can cry on my shoulder
When the mirror tells us we're older
I will hold you
And I will be here
To watch you grow in beauty
And tell you all the things you are to me
I will be here

I will be true to the promise I have made
To you and to the One who gave you to me

Tomorrow morning, if you wake up
And the sun does not appear
I will be hereOh, I will be here.

What I did:
I really wanted to use the complete song lyrics and there’s no way I can do that nicely with my own handwriting. So I decided to type it and print the song on vellum, which I layered with a patterned paper. Instead of using vellum adhesive, I decided to machine stitch the vellum on the patterned paper. I cut some patterns from one of the papers and used them as page embellishments. I inked the edges of all the papers - I tend to do this all the time. I also layered flowers on top of the big flower pattern and sewed a button on the flowers.

Supplies Used:
Patterned Papers – Webster’s Pages (Your Life. Beautiful line – Love Note, Brown Polka Dot, Orange You Beautiful); Alpha Stickers – Scenic Route; Alpha Chipboard – Making Memories; Word Sticker – K&Co.; Chipboard Label – Prima; Ribbon – Making Memories; Flowers – Prima; Ink – VersaMagic, VersaMark, VersaFine; Embossing Powder – Ranger; Adhesives – UHU, Glue Dots, Fiskars Foam Adhesive; Rubber Stamp – Hero Arts; Vellum; Button; Thread; MS Word; LoosieScript Font
