Our Family

Marix says, KAYA!

Finally, I'm back at Kaya! I have missed a couple of challenges and I have no excuse. I was on a hunt for a wall clock, a cheap wall clock, ever since Cookie posted the challenge. I was afraid I would mess up so I thought I should experiment with a cheap clock, fair enough? hehehe So glad I didn't mess up and my housemates even asked me to make for them! Thanks for this challenge Cookie! This one is a gift for my brother :)

Materials:

Beautiful Moments, Precious Memories

Mia says, KAYA!

I have been a Kaya lurker for a long time now and have been thinking of joining the challenges but somehow have never been able to. But with Cookie's challenge to alter a clock, well, maybe I just got challenged myself. LOL! I've been wanting to alter a clock since the time I saw Pia Lopez do it a few years back. It's isn't as hard as I thought! I was able to finish my clock in about 30 minutes or so and I'm quite happy with the results.

My daughter, Nadine, wasn't too excited at first when she saw me working on my clock. "But I like it as it is," she was insisting that I don't alter it. I told her to just be patient and wait for me to finish. When I was done and showed her my finished product, her reaction was of great joy. "It's beautiful, Mama!" she exclaimed. Now she's asking when I'll be altering the rest of the clocks in our house. LOL!

I'm glad I was able to altered this clock from the company giveaway of my husband. From the usual company logo, I was able to turn it something more beautiful and useful. Thank you Cookie for having this wonderful idea during the PS EB.

Moments to Cherish

Nita says KAYA,

During the last PS EB on November 2007, Cookie had captivated all of us with her altered clock tutorial. Almost all the members who attended that day herded their way to the mall within days to hoard on wall clocks – LOL. I was one of those who immediately bought two just in case I ran out of stock due to the frenzy she had created, which isn’t far fetched considering the track record we have as scrappers :D

Sadly though, those wall clocks remained untouched for months till I had gathered enough courage to even attempt altering one for my sister-in-law. Like most of us who braved to follow Cookie’s footsteps, it seems the greatest thrill we encountered was to discover that the clock was still functioning after we had put it back together – hehehe. In fact, the joy of creating the layout for it only came in a close second. Well, at least it was for me.

So now I am down to one last clock. Thank God Cookie called on this challenge for Kaya or else it would have remained doomed in storage for more months to come. Thank you, Cookie, for this brilliant spark of inspiration. You truly are a gem to our scrapping community.

Somehow, hearing my maiden name being called out in full still brings back repressed memories of my teacher’s voices: “Nenita Sy, where is your homework?!” (Nita shudders) See what I mean? – hehehe. Kidding aside, I am 44-years-old. I work as an accounting manager for a manufacturing company, by day… and a family-documentary recorder, by night. Ian

Mel says, KAYA!

Every time our wall clock runs out of batteries I always wanted to replace it. But now that I altered it, I don't mind if it is late or has stopped. But of course it would be great to get it working again. It was more of a challenge putting the clock back to working condition than putting the layout together. My son is proud of it. So am I.

Sandra says, KAYA!

Here's my take on the challenge. I've been wanting to alter clocks ever since I saw Cookie's works. I was so inspired. And last August 8, I ran to Divisoria to look for a clock, since its just a jeepney ride from work. I saw a store full of clocks, and I got one for only P60. Nice price for my first altered clock. I'll be using this clock in our hubby's green room. I really love it. Its simply green, fun and its us.

Time Together

Marian says, KAYA!

I was so excited to learn that this month's challenge is an altered clock. I have had this clock since last December when our favorite hardware gifted it to me. It has been sitting in the cabinet all this time. So when the challenge was posted I had to do it right away.

Materials:
Chatterbox papers, K & Co. diecut, Creative imaginations rub-ons, CS scraps, pink flower blings, plastic disc tags, QK Metro die cut numbers, Diamond Glaze.

Techniques:
cutting, punching, layering, inking, painting (the discs green as they didn't match), adhering numbers to discs then used Diamond Glaze.

About ME:
I have always loved doing arts and crafts. I used to make macrame belts, paper mache, hair accessories, cross stitch, candles, beaded accessories and Christmas decor. My current favorites are card making, stamping and scrapbooking. I think these 3 are intertwined with each other. I do believe these will be lifelong hobbies as there will always be friends to get in touch with, pictures to document and stories to tell. I am learning to use Photoshop Elements by reading on-line tips and tutorials and trying to do what I read. I hope to become a good photographer through the classes I just started recently.

Sweet Little Princess

Gracie says, KAYA!

I had an unused clock in the house which was still in a box. I think my mom got it for free when she bought our water dispenser. I used Marcie's cute picture for my clock. Now it's more pleasing to look at the time because it has my little girl's cute picture. Oh the title I used for this clock is "Sweet Little Princess" coz my little girl is surely sweet & pretty as a princess. I do have another clock in our room waiting to be altered. Thanks for this great & fun challenge!

Materials:
Floral Patterned papers, stickers & chipboard by All About Scrapbooking
Sticker numbers y EK Success Stickopotamus
Inkssentials Glossy accents
White Gel Pen- Pentel
Black Marker
Yellow Beads
Brown & White Ribbons

Techniques:
-I colored the numbers with a black marker & glazed it with Inkssentials Glossy accents to give it dimension. When it was all dried up, I then drew little dots & flowers on the numbers to match my floral theme.
-Did some layering with the patterned papers
-I also glazed the sticker flowers with Glossy accents
-I used the thin white ribbon to frame the picture
-Placed yellow beads next to the numbers to serve as markers for the clock.

About ME:
I'm Gracie Ann David-Tan, currently 25 years old & turning a year older next month. A current resident of Angeles City. I'm a mommy to Marcie (now 19 months old) & a wife to my loving & very hardworking husband, Mark. I'm a lover of arts & crafts (scrapooking, card making, altered art & paper crafts). I believe that you need not spend a lot to create art. Of course I do have my splurging moments too sometimes when I go shopping for arts & crafts materials & tools. I like to invest more on useful tools. I see myself as a resourceful person. Before I throw something away I try to visualize what I can create with that item. Like the emptied formula milk cans for example, I decided to create unique gift containers with them instead of just throwing them away. You can view samples of my altered cans at this site: http://dscrapyard.multiply.com & http://dscrapyard.logspot.com for my other LOs & creations.

I'm also a lover of music & dance & chocolates of course! I'm a stay at home mom but I also co-manage our family business. We sell perfume & health & beauty products both retail & wholesale. I still dream of putting up my own arts & crafts store here in our place since we have limited sources of scrapbook supplies here. I love to cook & bake too!

Our Family

Me-Anne says, KAYA!

Initially I was kinda apprehensive about altering this clock project, di ko yata kaya yan ----he he he. Well KAYA ko pala, thanks for Cookie for the heads up again.

This is actually a gift to a very special friend of mine last August 6 on the occasion of her birthday. Incidentally the photo of the project was done so quickly that I need to hand her the gift already...so I was not able to get a good view of the picture of them. But I did feel so happy that I was able to say KAYA!

Time spend together...

Cookie says, KAYA!

I have done a few altered clocks to given as gifts to friends, relatives during special occassions. But this time, I've decided to make one for myself. I have this picture of Henry and Harvey for quite some time now... this photo is one of my favorites so I've decided to use it on my altered clock so that i can hand it in our bedroom.

Supplies Used:
DCWV Cardstock; AC Thickers; AC patternpapers; White vellum; Green lace

Techniques Used:
Doodling, Tearing, Distressing

About ME:
I'm 30 years old, a mom to a super energetic boy named Harvey and a loving wife to Henry. Been scrapping since May 2007 and and i'm really enjoying every single moment of it. I just love to create... it's my way of expressing myself. Visit me at www.cookieaguilar.blogspot.com.

Kaya 16 - It's Alter Time!!!

If you have been religiously doing Kaya Challenges (which I'm so guilty of...not), more or less you will have 15 layouts now in your album. So now, let's do something different. I'm doing an altered clock tutorial and yup, this will be this month's Kaya Challenge.

I will be posting step by step pictures on how to do this. I know some of you guys know how to do this already. But for the benefit of the newbies and other scrappers who haven't tried this project, I am posting them for you to follow.

Materials Needed:
  1. Any clock (i always buy this at SM department store... its cheap, only costs P150 per clock)
  2. pliers
  3. cutter
  4. thin foam
  5. screw driver
  6. adhesives
  7. scissors
  8. 5R picture
  9. and other materials you usually need to make a layout like cardstock, patterned paper, etc...
Procedures:
Step 1. Get any clock and carefully dismantle it using a screw driver.

Step 2: Carefully take body of the clock away from the frame and the glass. Do not separate the glass from its frame.

Step 3: Carefully take off the hands of the clock by simply pulling them off. Please do this one by one and avoid bending them.

Step 4: Using a set of pliers, unscrew the bolt after taking the hands off the face of the clock.

Step 5: Carefully lift the white face of the clock. Avoid tearing this as you will use this as a pattern for the next step.

Step 6: Get a cardstock, preferably one that will match the photo and the patterned papers that you will use to design your clock. Trace the white circle paper that you took off the clock using pencil then cut the excess using scissors.

Step 7: Get the thin foam and place it under the cardstock to serve as protection in cutting the small inner circle of the cardstock. Use a cutter in doing this.

And...now your ready to design your own clock. This is like making your normal layouts only in a circle shape. Just keep in mind of the hole in the middle part of the cardstock - so avoid placing pictures (especially face part) or any embellishments directly over it.

Make your clocks simple, keeping in mind that you still have to place numbers for the minutes and the hours. And avoid 3D embellishments because they might come into contact with the clock's hands making it impossible to move. As much as possible keep it flat to the cardstock.

Once you're done with your circle layout, put adhesives at the back then place it on the body of the clock. (be careful to place the numbers straight on top, below, to the right and to the left. Again, you can use the white face of the clock you removed earlier a guide.

Step 8: Putting it back... First, place the layout as the new face of the clock then put on the bolts to secure the clock's machine, then put the hands back (check they are not bent), then the frame with the glass and there you have it... your own altered clock!

It's easy, right? You can give these as personalized gifts to your friends also!

Now back to the challenge requirements...

I'm only requiring you to use a clock of course and at least 1 photo (it can be 5R or 4R).

So enjoy and I hope you liked my simple tutorial on this.

Deadline of entries is on Aug 30, Saturday, 11:59 PM.

Kaya 15 Scrap a Sketch RAK Winners

Thank you to all the participants of the Kaya 15, Scrap a Sketch.

As mentioned during the challenge, I had humble RAKs to give to the first 5 PSers who could upload their layouts, they are:

Diane, Nina, Marissa, Susie and CV

As for our RAK winners, I had my SO, Art pick from a little raffle and was nice enough to let me write on his hands hehe :-) felt a bit kikay so I opted for a raffle of buttons (don't worry I used the backs LOL).

And so the winners for Kaya 15 are . . .

Congratulations to Lee and Janis!

Please PM your addresses to me, i'll be mailing all the RAKs in one go.
Thanks again everyone!

Note: as per our rule, we can only pick a name once every three months, the following previous winners are ineligible for this draw: Marian, Marissa, Diane and yours truly (Tin).

Scrappers

Janis says, KAYA!

I am not so lucky tonight (started the layout about lunchtime and finished it around 7pm - - in my office!!!), not so sure if I pictured it correctly - - my camera's battery is drained already.

So now on Letting go.... just perfect for me to test the waters. I've always wanted to doodle, but not sure if I really know how (good thing a friend of mine showed me her recently bought Kelly Panacci border clear stamps - - I based my doodles there!!!) plus I've always wanted to let go of my scraps (tsamba, goes with the title!!! parang shabby chic kunyari). I hope you'll enjoy my lay out as much as I enjoyed doodling.

Journaling:

That didn't spoil our moods though, Tito Jamir rescued the day by awarding us his masterpiece built from scraps of our layouts!

Materials Used:

Techniques Used:
Doodling, tearing, distressing

About ME:
This is my first take on a Kaya Challenge. I started scrapbooking only February of this year, and became a member in pinoyscrapbookers only in May (I think). I've always wanted to join but somehow missed the first two challenges (first one too personal, second one i have no pictures to scrap!!!)

A Year in Milan

Marian says KAYA!

My daughters are adults already but I still consider them my girls. If and when there are things I can do for them, I feel needed. Most of the time they are really so competent that they can do things for themselves.

Journalling:

It has always been your dream to study abroad and finally this 2008, your dream came true. You did all the paperwork, applications, exams, essays, arranged travel documents, student visa and tickets. I was still in a daze from Papa passing away when all this happened so I really didn’t have the energy or drive to help you in any way. When you finally left in January, the implications finally hit me. I missed you so much and kept thinking how you were doing. Thank goodness for the internet I could see how you were getting along.

I really had to let go as you were so far away and I couldn’t do anything for you when you would e-mail or text. I had to be detached when you said your room mate had spilled hot choco on you laptop and you had 2 reports in it. I was glad I got your message late when you said you were held in London for 7 hours before they finally allowed you to enter. It’s good I only knew about the drunks about to attack you when the taxi driver dropped you 2 blocks away from your friend’s apartment after it happened. It was a relief to know that you had no problems in Austria when the immigration office said you were illegally there for 2 days as they are not Schengen in June because of soccer.

I am so proud of you as you were able to cope and solve your problems on your own. I’m glad you had the presence of mind to scream at the drunks and run into a convenience store while you figured out how to get to your friend’s apartment. You learned to clean your room and bathroom. You had to do the grocery and marketing and cook your own food. You also had to do your laundry. All these household chores were things the maids did for you at home but you adjusted and learned to do it all. You have also kept within your budget spending only for essentials and not going shopping.

I am glad I did not let the fear of letting go prevent you from pursuing your dreams. I am so confident that you will fly, you will soar, in whatever you decide to do in the future.

Tatang Celso

Lee says, KAYA!

Where did the time go? Suddenly it's almost the end of the month and I almost missed Tin's Kaya! All my scrapbooking stuff are at home (haven't been there for 3 days and counting...) But thank God for a laptop and the internet, I was able to come up to the challenge.

This is my tribute to my former officemate who passed away last February 2008. I have always meant to scrap these photos, taken when we last saw each other in 2006. I still feel bad that even though we called each other sometimes, we never had the occasion to meet again. And I missed his last phone call because I was busy with something I could no longer recall now. I feel guilty that I was never able to return that last call. I guess I should let go of that and pray that he is in a good place.

Journaling:
You were more than just the office driver. You drove me where I needed to go but you also drove me crazy. You caused me to lose a big housing loan because you answered the telephone! But still, you were my friend. You made me laugh in the office. You brought me dinuguan that Manang cooked. You took care of me and everyone else. You were everybody's Tatang. 7/08
