Two Sisters

July says, KAYA!

I missed the deadline for the last challenge. I sent my entry 24 minutes late and only to find out the copy of my entry didn't attach to my mail because it's a big file. Anyway, I made sure that in this challenge I'm in before the deadline.

I had a wonderful time doing this challenge. Since I just printed our nice pictures from a trip to Baguio 4 years ago , this challenge also provide me reason to scrap them. This Crate paper perfectly coordinates with our pictures. Two dominant colors, two poses, two peacocks, two flowers, two stamps, two rays, its all in two. Thanks to Scrapbook Hawaii for the great idea.

Materials Used:
Crate papers - Blue Hill coordinating kit with rub on.

About ME:

Two by Two

Barbie says, KAYA!

Hay, Kaya, what would I do without you? I love that you make us think outside the box and try things outside of our comfort zone, making us experiment and discover things that we wouldn’t ordinarily come across. :)

This was a pic from my college classmate’s last Christmas get-together, and without intending to, we all look so “paired”. I thought it would be a great “two” picture! Went a bit crazy with the “two” theme – using 2 of the word ‘two’ and even making 2 sizes of holes for a border (love that Crop-a-dile!)

Walang prompt yang pic na yan, we didn’t know we were all so “couple-y” until we saw the image in the camera. I think it’s a neat way to capture the moment when we all realized “Oh, my god, we’ve grown up.”

Journaling:

Our Christmas gatherings used to be “no partners” until we all had partners who were more or less permanent. Now, gatherings are family affairs, with people showing up in pairs… soon, kids!

Materials used:

2 plain generic cardstock: photo mat and journaling mat

2 K&Co patterned cardstock: red wave and main mat

2 colors of chalk (Chalklets) on journaling block

2 types of chipboard letters – AC Thickers and ProvoCraft Alphaletterz

2 colors of ink for distressing : one for the photo mat, and the other for the edges of the wave

2 sets of alphabet stamps: Autumn Leaves Stampology (“by”) and EK Success Image Tree Antique Alphabet (subtitle)

2 Really Big Brads

About me: I wanted to use blue in this layout, but my artistic director said NO. So I'm giving credit where credit is due - here's a photo of my AD, who chewed up the corners of my entire stash of blue patterned paper while I was not looking. :( His assistant, not shown in pic, was working on my pinks when I caught them.

Me, I'm just a happy scrapper.

Two Big

Mia says, KAYA!

I too missed the deadline for the last Kaya Challenge! And to think I kept on bugging Lee about the requirements! (If you want to check out the layout I made for the last challenge, you can find it in my blog. The layout is entitled Almost.)

So I'm making sure I don't miss the deadline this time. My layout is about my Alyssa trying on Daddy's big shoes. She is such a cutie --- always amusing us with her antics and expressions! I thought that the papers from Studio Azul's April kit matched perfectly with Alyssa's dress! I loved it! I also used Sketch #82 from Valerie Salmon's Got Sketch blog.

Journaling:
You never cease to amuse us! On this day, you just decided to wear Daddy's big boots. You are so adorable! Alyssa at 17 months.

Materials Used:
Mostly from Studio Azul April Kit
2 cardstocks - Bazzil and Sizzix
2 patterned papers - both from Rusty Pickle
2 buttons
2 ribbons
2 brads - AAS
2 journaling papers - Making Memories
2 flowers - Prima
2 pictures
2 words on the title
2 alphas - AAS and Prima Foil
2 colors of pens - both Staedler

About ME:
I am in my mid-thirties, married to my bestfriend, Mier, for 8 years and blessed with three beautiful princesses, Nadine (age 7), Raya (age 5) and Alyssa (1 year). I have been fixing my photos since high school but got really serious (as in using acid free materials) in 2004 after my 2nd daughter was born. Since then I've been hooked! Took a break in 2007 when I had a difficult pregnancy with my 3rd baby but I'm now back and more addicted than ever! I believe the heart of my layouts is my journaling. I scrapbook to share myself and my stories to my children.

Two Crazy

Lee says, Kaya!

I'm making sure I don't miss the deadline this time so I made this simple layout two days ago. I couldn't declare it "finished" until I persuaded DH to come up with the journaling. (Don't ask what I had to bribe him with.)

This photo was taken last September 2008, our 11th wedding anniversary. When I saw the photo I immediately asked DH, "Bakit ganyan ang mukha mo, parang nakakaloko? Samantalang ako, ngiting-ngiti. What were you thinking?" And that's how I decided he should do the journaling. I left the layout on the table last night and when I awoke this morning, there it was.

Journaling (written by DH):
Yup, there's no doubt about it...this is for keeps!

Materials Used:
Mostly from Scrapbook Hawaii's First Kiss kit -
2 Cardstock - red (photo mat) and white (quote balloon); 2 PPS - Basic Grey (background) and Making Memories (on heart); 2 diecut shapes - Maya Road (double heart) and Basic Grey (single heart); 2 stamped images - Bam Pop (quote balloon) and Paper Salon (love); 2 ink pads - Colorbox (ochre and black); 2 metal embellishments - WRMK (ribbon holder) and Making Memories (tag); 2 Thicker alphabets - American Crafts; 2 ribbons - Making Memories
2 lace - unknown; 2 acrylic paints - Making Memories (red) and Li'l Davis (brown).

Techniques Used:
This is a simple layout where everything comes in pairs. There's two of us in the photo, and did you notice that there are two Ns and two Rs in "Anniversarry"? Well, Italianni's has great food and service but they sure can't spell. LOL.

About ME:
I'm Lee, I have perfected the art of scrapping and watching TV at the same time. I swear, I've never been more productive than these past few weeks that I've been having Big Bang Theory, Gossip Girl, Supernatural and Ghost Whisperer marathons. I also made a layout for the last challenge but wasn't able to post it in time. You can view it at my blog, The Armchair Scrapper.

Kaya 25 Challenge Part 2 - Put Two and Two Together

First of all, thanks to everyone who joined our first challenge for this month. And again, I must apologise for the late posting of a few entries. Blame it on my intermittent internet connection. All qualified entries will be included in the RAK draw at the end of the month.

Second, here's our last challenge as cooked up by Yoyin. Since this is Kaya's 2nd anniversary, everything must be in TWO.

Guidelines:

1) The word "two" must be included in the title (not the number 2).
2) There must be two of each material used.
3) Any size/number of photos allowed; 12x12 or 8.5x11 traditional layouts.
4) Please indicate the pairs in your materials list.
5) Layout must be made specifically for Kaya 25-2.
6) You may submit as many layouts as you want but you will only be entered once in the drawing.
7) Deadline for submissions for this challenge is on May 30, 2009 at 11:59PM.

In Yoyin's layout below, there are 2 cardstocks + 2 patterned papers + 2 stamps + 2 ribbons + 2 fonts/alphas + 2 stickers + 2 buttons.

As with the last challenge, Scrapbooks Hawaii is again graciously sponsoring the RAK prize.

Happy scrapping!

My Prince

Janis says, KAYA!

I'm soo bad at deadlines - - the truth is I thought I won't be joining this challenge for I'm not a fan of using fabrics on my layouts. But then, will it be so bad to try something new? So, here's another simple layout from me - - the photo is bad for it was taken 30 minutes before the 12 midnight deadline.

Materials used:
DCWV cardstock, ribbons, felt cloth, mesh cloth, Tim Holtz Ticket, AAS satin flower, buttons, DMC thread, Cuttelbug diecuts (foam heart, chipboard netting), Scenic Route chipboard crown, AC Thickers (Jewelry Box), Dymo tape, Sakura Pens.

Your Smile is Unforgettable

Cookie says, KAYA!

This is why i love joining Kaya Challenges--- its making you do something that you usually don't do on your pages. The first time I've read about the challenge, napa-ngee ako - because i don't use fabric on my pages. Then one night, I remembered this very cute piece of cloth that Nina gave me. Seeing this piece of cloth just gave me an idea what to scrap and to join this Kaya challenge.

I really love candid shots. This picture of Harvey was taken during our recent vacation to our province. This pic is one of my faves.

Here's my page...

Dumaguete

Alby says, KAYA!

Using fabrics on a layout is a big challenge for me. I remember in 2007, it was this challenge that booted me out of the Scrappin' Moms' Idol. So when I saw the first challenge for the month, I thought it would be really tough. The first hurdle was choosing which fabric to use. Fortunately, I still have the May 2008 kit of Studio Azul which has fabric swatches in it. Next, what to do? I keep telling myself that all I need to do is just use the fabric like I would any patterned paper. So I sprayed the fabric with some starch spray to stiffen it, then I ironed it and cut it like a paper - with a metal ruler and cutter. Then it's time to bring out the sewing machine. Well, here's the result!

Here's a closer look at the stitched details and the embellishments (my first time to use these crystals!!!).

The photos were taken during our recent trip to Dumaguete and we actually fell in love with the city.

Journaling:
We fell in love with...
the friendly locals, the mouthwatering dishes, the fresh air, the clean surroundings, the old, small town feel.

LUCKY

Ems says, KAYA!

I remembered doing a similar challenge during Scrappinmoms’ 1st ever Scrap Idol. I thought I won’t make it and would have difficulty in this challenge as I had during the Idol season but I’m quite happy with the outcome and quite proud of this since I did this for only 2 hours last
night (after a whole day’s travel from Quezon, mind you).

So glad also to have made this lay-out (thanks scrapbookshawaii) honoring 2 of the most important women in my life (my mom and my mom-in-law). I’m so blessed to have good relationship with the both of them (and vise versa with hubby as well). We’re the lucky ones, as they say!

Roxannee says, KAYA!

From the day that Yoyin posted her layout, I said to myself "hindi ako sasali!"... but there was this nagging urge in my head to take up the challenge. It's Kaya's 2nd Anniversary after all, and there are more reasons to join than not. So there, I gave in. na-Kaya ko pala.

About the picture- Going to the beach (any time of the year) to eat Fish and Chips for dinner is part of our family routine. There is no excuse not to go there. It is free, relaxing and it creates more family memories each time. I like the way we left our footwear on the sand to have a run near the shore. It is a family picture in it's own right.
